You make a fair point, however, different people have different ways of reacting when angered. The same applies to revenge. He is in the forest where he can't do anything against the Nexaria empire. The only option he has is to follow his laid out plans. For the internal monologue, someone that went through such a traumatic event would try as much as possible to forget what happened. Also, on several occasions you would see him get emotional when things trigger those memories. Hope that clears your confusion?
Six hours slowly trickled by as Luke travelled in one direction, North. His determination and flames of revenge that could burn even the Gods remained unwavering during these six hours. However, his physical body couldn't keep up with their intensity.
