Synopsis

Helix didn’t want to become a protagonist. Unfortunately, he was summoned to another world against his will, and a mad god was dead set on making him the hero.

After turning down her offer for comical power and a harem-attracting charm attribute, he was left with [zeros] for all of his stats.

Worse, he was given a legendary magic class that creates illusions of an enemy’s greatest fear and has a millennium-long history of killing its wielders in the first month.

His decision left him defenseless around 49 jealous light novel-reading Earthians with delusional desires to be the protagonist and slaughter their way to godhood.

Stranded in a world where [everyone] is one punch man, only his mind and cunning will help him survive.

[Nightmare] explores cliches from a real-world perspective. The mc doesn't want to be a protagonist—that never changes.

It's a dynamic that makes this story a satisfying dark comedy and constantly asks interesting questions.

This novel examines how the [mindsets] of the weebs shape how they view and interact with it.

It covers RPG culture, harem culture, cultivator world mindset, system wish fulfillment, real-world weak to strong complications, and the twisted nature of overpowered characters.

Yes: Helix gets satisfyingly op.

Note: I had to read a truckload of cliche novels to roast cliches. Especially cultivation cliches—I'm writing a cultivation novel! XD

[Sexual content warning]. There are lemons. You're welcome.

If you like the comedy aspect, try out my other novel My Yandere Harem for ultimate yandere goodness.

—Important Disclaimer—

This novel has a heartbreaking scene that highlights the tragic consequences of the cultivator mindset.

80% of the people drop do it because of that chapter. I wouldn't have written it if I knew how adverse WN readers were to character deaths.

Please don't drop because of that scene. The decision was bad, but the story isn't. If it hits you like a bag of bricks, it means that my writing was powerful, and there's a lot of potential in the future.

Enjoy the novel!

If you read this for its tags, prepare to get roasted. This book is a parody of web novel cliches, and I've been laughing as much as I'm questioning my taste in books. The mc is intelligent at the start for once, which is nice as well. However... he also makes poor decisions imo. At least they're thought out. We'll see who's right as the story progresses

I came from Nerve Network hoping for another wild action novel with a smart mc. I was let down at first. Nightmare is a parody with psychological elements and minimum action. It isn't the same genre. I find it hilarious, but it took awhile to get into because I wanted something else. However, once I came to terms that it wasn't like NN I found it extremely engaging in ways I haven't found on WN. If you're looking for action, read NN. But give this one a shot if you're willing to enjoy a comedy.

It starts slow, but that's fine because it's hilarious and the author is grilling cliches like an op cultivator wipes out offencers. After reading 21 chapters, I'm hooked and checking WN to see if a new chapter is posted. 😭 Cultivator and level up cliches... I have high expectations. Don't let me down...

The first five chapters are worth reading alone. It's also well written, funny, and kind of depressing as well. Author, please keep writing. I need this in my life lol

The harem cliches are gold. I'm dying every few chapters for different reasons. Its also not a simple level up book. The mc doesn't need magic to win against op people and I love that. Mass release... please...

Okay, so this book isn't for everyone. It's not a conventional level up type of book. The mc is summoned to another world with 49 other otakus that read light novels. He's offered a chance to become the protagonist, get op stats and a charm stat to start a harem from an evil god, but turns it down. As a result, he's left with no stats and has to survive the others that are treating the new world like a videogame/cultivator novel. Unlike most protagonists, he doesn't receive anything that helps him survive. So he's seriously defenseless. Luckily, he's a true brilliant mc and builds up a bodyguard troop of women and uses survival strategies to overpower everyone. I've read all of the chapters so far and it's absolutely brutal how ruthless he can be. I wouldn't recommend this book for someone that is looking for immediate action. However, if you're looking for a comedy or a book with smart mcs, this is your book.

I'm planting my flag here before this novel takes off. I can tell the author reads on WN because the mc is drowning in every cliche imaginable, and hates his life. He knows what's coming and he doesn't want any part of it. That's what makes it interesting. It's cleverly written, witty, and dark. The dialogue is great and the first "fight" alone shows the book isn't one dimensional. It's a good read

I have yet to read it, but I already want to thank author for the synapsis. The toxicity of the [mindsets] is really disgusting at times, it makes people look like some beasts. Outdated ways of thinking that silently harm people while claiming all credit for good things. I know a lot of them from all the novels I read, and I hated them to the point of writing a novel myself. Thank you for doing it for me 😊

Came for the trash and was extremely disappointed. The story was well written with interesting characters, plot, and motivations. The protagonist is consistently smart and the realistic exploration of cliche scenarios is hilarious. Recommended if you are looking for a good story with lots of feels and laughs.

This book isn't for everyone. Anyone that expects the standard zero to hero in 7 chapters book won't get their fix. However, it's hilarious, dark, and has extremely clever dialogue / character development. I've binged what there is and I'm excited for more chapters

Highest quality writing I've experienced in webnovel and throughout many books. Exelent character design and story from what I've read, even past the point many people dropped. This novel so far is more focused on character dynamics, the good and bad relations rather than action and im all for it especially with the cliches being revamped into a more realiatic experience or being mocked by the characters. So far world building is minimal but im still at a part where they have yet to fully leave the start and cant wait for what is to come. Overall very hyped to continue reading, and i hope you will too

Since you asked for it, here you go. Webnovel's rating feature is quite literally the most useless function on the planet, though. I normally leave my 1-star reviews on the websites people use to circumvent your paywall. 'Cause I don't pay for trash, and anyone that does is handicapped.

idk about this book. it gives me mixed signals. it seems realistic about cliches on one hand and on the other I want to argue against everything it stands for. it's a conundrum. however it is an original take on cliches so it's worth a shot to open your views on other books.

Basically, this is what would “realistically” happen if weebs were summoned to a magic world.

Thanks to the author for explaining that it was indeed intentional to time skip the section I asked about. Only gripe I have is how abrupt and random the time skip was, especially when it spoiled a LOT of story. For those that want to know when this big skip happens, it's the chapter after [Trauma]. SPOILER NEXT: The big leap from the MC just surviving an attack, only to suddenly jump to when he's now suddenly in a life or death duel with no clue as to who any of the newly introduced characters are is disorienting. I thought it was intended at first but the amount of information that was lacking was off putting and frustrating to read through to the point where I genuinely thought there were chapters missing. It wasn't like the time skip thing that happened at the start where the MC clicked "NO" and then we got the background up until that foreshadowing point, it was just a straight up skip of what seemed to be 1-2 mini arcs worth of content to read. CONCLUSION: I enjoy this story, but the fact that I have to trudge through a completely new arc and characters I know nothing about and have to remember what their relationships and characteristics are have put me in a dilemma as it started becoming less enjoyable for me. I may try and read again later cause I don't want to make reading what is clearly a well thought out and developed story a chore. I recommend reading in small intervals, or stop if you get confused and take a break.

I absolutely loved this novel. If you like parodies then you'll love this. It may start out a little slow but if you keep reading the pay off is going to make you weep wet silly tears of joy.
