Synopsis

'Sinner of the Spades' takes place in an alternate early 20th century, at the turn of industrial advancement. Set in a world where one Empire rules over the majority of the western continent, the world is ravaged by the aftereffects of a great war. It is a world of tragedy, of longing for wealth, of parading high above the clouds, of mechanical automatons, and of grand tales of sorcery not many have had the chance to see themselves.

Lumière Croft is a show magician in the middle borough of the city-state of Leiden- rather, an illusionist. A career liar. Responsible for making money to help out at the monastery he lives in, he can only curse the dreadful circumstances around him, and wish desperately that something would change.

Although, that change is not always a good thing.

Only when the shadows around him begin to creep, and when the sky grows burgeoning eyes, and when blood is spilled, does he find hope of fulfilling his wishes.

To have sunlight, the world must be balanced with cruelty. To have power, one must lose their soul, humanity, morality, or sanity. One must ultimately balance the scales of their debt, or fall eternally to suffering, and have the scales corrected by force.

This is the story of balance, of hope, and of the tragedy of a liar.

—-

“We’re all liars who pretend that the world is okay, and as liars we adopt philosophies and ideologies to cope with its cruelty. Because the world has hope, as long as we speak these lies loud enough, they’ll surely become true.” - Lumière Croft.

Hmm.. Where do I start? 😂Author pretty much has everything down. A few chapters revealed that much. Unlike a lot of low quality books on the app, I can honestly say this was well planned out and written. MC is very relatable and not a simp in any way. Chapter length is also impressing (satisfyingly long) with very little grammar issues. Gotta hand it to the author. Although, I must warn you. the narration can get boring at times but it's most time captivating. Pay close attention or else you won't understand what's going on. I'll leave a more detailed review later on. The novel is just starting but it's potential can't be ignored. Keep it up Author

The prose of this work is phenomenal, and very uncommon in Webnovel because of how much its dominated by 'fastfood novels' that are catered for people who prefer fast-paced easy-to-read books. If you're a fan of this slowburn, intricate writing style, I highly recommend checking this out. I really like the steampunk vibe going on, with the setting being post-Industrial era and all the fascinations for magicians and illusionists. Lumiere is also an interesting main character because he's a bit more contemplative than most MCs in ML novels. It's interesting to see his inner conflicts and relationships with other characters.Overall, it's a very unique read and I recommend checking it out!

The standout feature of this novel is undoubtedly its writing style. The author has a talent for crafting intricate sentences that captivate the reader. While the initial pacing may be a bit slow, the story gradually evolves into an engaging and enjoyable read. Another highlight of the novel is the protagonist, who sets himself apart from the typical fantasy main characters by displaying a rare sense of self-awareness often absent in other novels of the genre.

overall decent but needs patience as it is a bit of a slow burner. nice work author, i can tell you put a lot of effort into it. the pacing is a bit slow to my liking, a lot of dialogue and internal confusion going on, but the writing is good and up to chapter three i was entertained. would recommend!

In the beginning it was church now it jump to exploring the universe which then leads to a crowd of side characters gathered together, the MC isn't really introduced all that much, the only thing we know is his name A beauty introduced into first chapter but its not a "jade" beauty along with a lot of inspiration from other works it can engage a reader who isn't all that curious and want to waste time. Even the outlines of bolding words, exclamation points (!) actually feel like we're inside the author creation. Although the mona building isn't really describe how big it is until a few chapters later. I would say as someone who spent the first few chapters reading it can really engage you to a world of likable fantasy. Some scenes like magician ones could using clapping to draw attention of the background character in front of them or those around them when they're yelling/scolding others for mistakes However in chapter two there is 2 random bolded texts that were suppose to be inaudible, what is this about? In chapter 3, romance is in the works. This kind of engages more plotline depends on how you view/build it I like how you introduced assassins who hide with cloaks on. I get your trying to switch povs a lot, I think labeling that pov from side pov to MC pov may be a good idea to not confuse readers Other than the first few chapters in, you are doing well so for on your novel.
