There is a difference between himself having a goal, and him pushing said goal onto others as well. Mc is not a heartless monster, if his master wants to not die without ascending, then the protagonist wants to support his Master. In my Opinion the MC is just more nuanced than wanting to die of old age as ultimate goal. There should be more to his character as he didn't just run away to live on his own, and cultivate alone to die of old age. You know, if Mcs Goal was to just die of old age, he wouldnt have started cultivating at all! And as to why he doesn't just put himself into dangerous situations in which he might die with a chance of some gain, may be the same reason you dont try to rob Putin. Because it sure as hell won't end pretty most of the time, and Mc doesnt want that for himself if he can avoid it. If he can just cultivate instead of trying not to die in the wilderness, he will do that. Only, and only if there is no other chance in his opinion, like his master needing medicine to ascend and not die because of the heavenly tribulation, will the Mc go to do something dangerous, but that only if he knows all danger and is prepared enough to face it. So to summarize, I think the author thought more about his book, and plotpoints than some random commentor.
However, he had to do it for his Master.

You can't feel unjust, if there is nothing just in your life to compare it to.
