This isn't physically possible in a Nigerian household. If you're not busy, you must work till nighttime. Who cares if you're reading a novel? They will just insult you for reading the novel instead of your schoolbooks.
After school that day, I spent the rest of the time in my room reading a novel.

This is a true Nigerian mother. It is as if you know my mother. Everything she said is exactly what mine would have said.
"Fresh air? Matilda! Fresh air! From where to where?" Her eyes looked like they would pop out anytime soon, due to how surprised she looked. "So you think that you are a big now girl abi? I have breasts and you have breasts too. What else is left na? For you to start throwing punches at me, right?"

To be honest, I actually didn't think much of this novel at first since I'm not a fan of romance novels. But something drew me to it. I found things that I could relate with in real life. Maybe it's because I'm a Nigerian and the use of the vocabulary is purely Nigerian (English and broken English - pidgin) is something I hear on a daily basis. Also, the behaviours and attitudes of the different characters are very realistic. For example, the character of her Mother. I just love how the author portrays Nigeria correctly in this book.
