It's strange you try to give a realistic depiction of how someone from the modern age would act if placed in GoT but in the sentence before complain about having no reincarnation backstory or "cheats". Reincarnation backstories are the things I hate most about fanfics. They always use some contrived reason to reincarnate the MC into a fantasy world with "cheats". The inclusion of God like entities that give wishes to people is just a bad way to write a backstory. I hope you drop this and don't waste your time because this clearly isn't meant for you.

Before coming to the world of ice and and fire, Jon never had a dream or goal set in mind. He was just a young adult, unsure of his future and his desires. At times, he found himself comfortable with his simple life, while at the other times he hated himself for his mediocrity.

If I'm being completely honest. I had a very different idea for what type of person Jon would be at the beginning of this story. Originally he was supposed to be a good person but now he's more like Little Finger rather than Jon from the books or show. I decided to change the role that Catelyn plays in the story. For what I have planned now, Arya, Sansa and Catelyn will become important while Rob and Ned will die. This will likely change as I haven't decided what to do with Bran yet as he is a very strange character.

No. He's been a guard of Winterfell since the first chapter which is multiple years before the most recent chapter. In that time he has slowly taken over more of the responsibilities of master at arms since everyone expects him to take that position in the future. The men are more loyal to him over Eddard because he is one of them. He is a guard of Winterfell, he spends far more time with them and has dedicated most of his life to training alongside them.

? This is just animals he's killed and discretely gathered into a ritual. He doesn't actually kill anyone until chapter 14-15.
The ritual circle was even more revolting. Heads of the animals I had killed marked the outline of the bloody sacrificial circle. Bones stripped from their bodies extended from the skulls to the inside of the circle.
