Synopsis

[Warning: This book can get brutal, but don't expect action on every page. I place quite an emphasis on character design and development.]

.........

You've read Apocalypse stories thousands of times, with courageous, cautious and even altruistic leads. Western, Eastern.. how about an African lead whose ability can actually get him killed??

Bernard once gambled on a chance to make his life better. To do what he actually wanted with his life despite what others wanted him to do.

Though it's probably not the gamble you're thinking about...

He succeeded. He got to live the life of his dreams, gave his family the support they needed and saw them thrive. That one moment gave him everything he dreamed of..

That was until the apocalypse came.... The planet quaked, the ozone was destroyed, harsh light eviscerated life on the planet.. Gravity was distorted and mutations occurred on some organic lives on the entire planet..

An enemy of unimaginable proportions descended on Earth, but the mystery behind him is one you probably haven't heard of many times...

Bernard’s hard work was destroyed. So was his family that he had finally made proud, as a brother and as a son.

At the brink of death, a light shone amidst the chaos. A light that clung to many humans who were still alive...

A light that gave them a fighting chance against their enemy...

The humans awakened to abilities tied to their happiest memories. Abilities of different kinds with vast applications and some.... awkward connotations..

Bernard awakened a gift to fight through the terror and creatures that awaited.

He awakened the Innate Ability: Gamble...

.........

Vital Information for Readers:

I'm sure most of you won't like the main character in the beginning. But I must stress that he will develop and experience a major development in an important arc that's not too far ahead.

He won't always be on the pages for the first section of the story, but he will still have a prominent role. Other characters in this world are given a fair share of time to express themselves and develop too. A lot.

The first 10 chapters set up the BASIC story, but they are NOT exposition. The story will be moving...quite fast, so be prepared for less action in that time period.

Hey guys, Shade here! To those reading this story, at this current time I'm starting the fifth volume of this story, which will be longest one and most action packed, filled to the brim with characters and their development. It will also features weirder innate abilities so please hang on. This story is an apocalypse type which focuses on human conduct when there's an apocalypse, slowly drifting into how the superpowered individuals will react and how the non-superpowered will react as well. Word of warning... PLEASE do not skip the beginning of the 'CHAOS IN A DYING WORLD' volume. I know the main character barely features in it, but it is extremely important to the plot, building up one of the villains and developing one of the important side characters. It also has a ton of fun innate abilities, so please do not skip it. It's more interesting than you think. Thanks for reading!

okay so, first of all, this author is a beast in writing so if you stumble upon this story give their author's stories a read aswell. the story has a thought process, it will leave you thinking on every line and paragraph a good description of humans, human nature is presented here nothing short of gold, I mean the story and the author.

Quite an idea you have got here. The story takes a turn all of a sudden to bring the unpreparedness that an apocalypse brings. The near death despair is real with lots of regret. I like the flow of the story as well as the reality of most most homes in developing world. Keep it up

I genuinely love the concept behind this, and the story in general. I love the creativity of the author. I just wish that I get to read tons of chapters on a daily basis. This novel is too good especially an explanation of a different world. The main lead is amazing and that makes it quite admiring. Here are my honest thoughts about this novel based on what I read so far: World Building: The world-building in this one is quite clear as it's set in the apocalypse where a mutated creatures. It is a quite an intriguing and thrilling concept for the this novel. Therefore, I do hope the author can expand more about the mutated creature element and how they going to give a major impact to the story development or even exploring more about their origins. Character: Bernard is quite okay and relatable character as he saw the whale lizard, he ran away in fear. However, I do have some nitpicky opinion, I think it's best for the author to reduce the real life reference from him so it can make Bernard more a serious character. Overall, I also can see his development too or building up his true motivation of joining the forces that hunt down the mutated creature or even exploring more about the gambling concept of his character. While the other characters are okay for now and I can some room of development for them too. Writing Style: I think the author needs to add more showing rather than telling to make this book more interesting and engaging to read. Overall, the writing style right now is quite smooth with flow of the story and enjoyable to read. That's all I have to say and Keep up the good work!!

The writing quality and character is very good, the story flows smoothly, witld background is the one with caught me more, its not like a novel its more like a autobiography, with reality check, thats the most beautiful thing, over good book, I want to know if mc will succeed in gamble, or this dark place is gonna swallow him, so I added to library, give it a try, I hope it won't disappoint you guys

Let's start with the review. The story is about an apocalyptic scenario that changes the world and ultimately removes everyone from their former daily lives, forcing them into fighting for survival. When it comes to the writing style, it's first-class and enjoyable for me. It's well above average compared to the things you find here on webnovel. Like some other readers already suggested, showing more off is never too bad. My problem with the novel is, to be honest, two small things. I read around like 8 chapters so forgive me if it no longer holds, but the gender distribution feels slightly off as if more females are in the story compared to their counterparts (the male gender), which can easily be fixed^^. Another little problem for me is that the building of the shelters and their understanding of how abilities work is a little fast-paced, which can also be explained with mother earth. I'm interested in how the otherworldy mutants came into existence and how they differ from each other. It would also be interesting to see if they're able to develop a hierarchical structure or intercommunication between each other. Overall, I enjoyed my read till now and will continue with it. I hope you keep up the work. This is just a short review a more in-depth review can probably be expected on another day when the novel has more chapters.

Am being baised but as long as MC loved demon Slayer then he's in my good books. But that aside, the world background and character development is unique. Reading this story won't disappoint you, and am waiting to see how far gambling will take our MC. Great job author-kun

The writing itself is very much above average, while the outstanding narration takes the writing up a notch and makes the reading experience enjoyable. The updates look to be stable. At 22 chapters, the story is still in its embryonic stage, but it's looking to be a rather creative take on the apocalypse and ability genre, while the characterization is good, and the world background is also done well. If there is one thing I personally find glaring, it is that information on the power system was revealed a bit hastily and could have been done with a more gradual approach(though perhaps there is still much mystery to it, and in that case, this nitpick is obsolete).

Shameless review here... If you're looking for a meaningful story with high stakes, cool abilities and compelling characters, this is the novel for you. A good reading experience, English wise and plot wise is guaranteed... or at least I guarantee it... an apocalypse story is a good flow and great ending... though not yet [img=recommend]

This deserves a 5 star. The writing is nice, and the plot setting is the standard apocalypse world. The mc's abilities are also very interesting. To me, the best parts of the novel are the slight touches the author has added to display the despair of the apocalyptic scenario. It really makes the world feel more real.

Very interesting apocalypse story. It takes a very new turn. The story is realistic with possible reactions to such a calamity. We see mcs that adapt in less than a second because they played a game like that. Right! That is not possible. I enjoyed the book. The overused apocalypse trope in a fresh new box, unique characters, the flow is great. So far so good. Kudos to the author.

The world-building is very detailed and comprehensive. I love how it revolves around Bernard and the world that he was so eager to build for his family just went tumbling down and then he met Astrid. I'm going to expect some development between them author Keep going author!! Very nicely done!

I read till Chapter 7 and couldn't stop reading. Absolutely brilliant narrative of an apocalypse. This is descriptive writing put to good use and as the story unfolds, as Bernard realises what he needs to do, things get interesting. I would not miss this book for the world. It is not your regular apocalypse superhuman book. Try it!

Story development, I love it from the point the disaster began and the character design is realistic as the mc who persuade his dream and world background was super interesting. Love your work, Author.
