The great calamity, an event that nearly destroyed the whole world, forced humanity into an unnatural evolution in the form of espers and mutants. Due to power struggles, espers and mutants waged war against one another for a thousand years. At the end of the war a truce was formed and the mutants and espers helped in the rebuilding of society.
