Synopsis
An Imperial Scholar by day. An assassin by night.
The World of Cultivation has changed.
Elemental Mancers. Flux Mancers. Spirit Mancers. Soul Mancers.
Raining down fire and splitting oceans. Destroying mountains with a single stomp and calming skies with a glance. Controlling the tides of Karma, while wielding the souls of others like a puppeteer tugging on the Lines of Fate.
The most mysterious of them all were Spirit Mancers, a truth that Theron was more than intimately familiar with. Due to one's Tribulation, his life was turned upside down. His family, his rage, his somber sadness becoming nothing more than Bad Karma's fuel for a madman.
He was once a gentle young man, a non-combative Water Mancer who wanted nothing more than to read his novels to the sound of the rain and one day become an Imperial Scholar.
But now...
Everything had changed.
He donned a cloak in the silent night as the clouds above gathered. Pulling its hood over his chilling blue eyes, he stalked off into the darkness.
The first droplets fell.
He would become the nightmare of his enemies, the blade hidden in the shadows of Heaven's tears.
The River of the Night.

Write a reviewHaven't seen much on the world background, but at the moment it's really good. And the book is also developing quite well... Recommendation points: 90 I suppose the book can get to Webnovel Top 20 - If it gets enough support. I will be one of the supporters, and hope others join in soon...
I’m dropping as of chapter 207. There seems to be a bunch of filler characters which is a usual trope in alot of novels but they add no substance. Most guys that show up in this novel are antagonist, who try to kill the MC, who’s cultivation levels are higher than his, but MC outsmarts them to kill them because he’s just simply the only cultivator with a brain? I get if some of them added to the plot but it’s very much so, “You killed this junior from my family, now I’ll send others to kill you, bang, you killed them too? Let’s send some more” very MGA like.. Someone’s new arrives, they die, another new guy arrives they die cause the MC has some “miraculous” method to kill them. Overall Awe’s writing is good per usual, the world building is good as well, I’m just not liking how the MC is developing. He’s turning into an emotionless 14 year old assassin who used to be kind and caring and has completely lost his personality. I do recommend giving it a read though, just be prepared for a Mc to cut down a bunch of cabbages that don’t seem to serve a real purpose or for a purpose that’s forced.
Theron behave too arrogant before someone who can kill him with flick of finger and always think he will be saved by some plot armour
Chapters read: 42 I thought mixing mage concepts with cultivation was interesting, but things got a bit confusing to me. I did feel the antagonization of the MC was a bit forced with some of the characters. There didn't seem to be any background information as to what MC possibly did to them to merit that hatred lol aside from Raiden, the hatred of others seems a little out of place. That's just what I think, but I know someone can hate you for no reason too. So perhaps it's reasonable?? I thought the story was okay, neither great nor terrible.
Thanks for the Books!!!!! 😆 📖🍻 Let me be the first to give all five stars for all five categories for your new book aside from the Author 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 We are all looking forward for the next chapters 🥰📖🍷
The stylistic and progression of the story is nicely done, readers are spared from all the unnecessary fluffs that are so common in cultivation novel. However, after having read 300+ chapters, I couldn’t help but dislike the overly indulged sense of entitlement, grudge and hatred the MC has shown to so many characters that do not merit such treatments. I get it that the author wants to tell us that the MC gets influenced by the volatile nature of his elements but why cut off all connections to people who could be friends and possibly brings benefits to the MC himself? His tragic past and the irreconcilable vengeance are already such a burden and trauma for him, why is it necessary to keep shutting everyone out of his life? And he seems to have a knack to take the most ruthless decision that are not only extreme but potentially suicidal before he has even avenged his family. I’m not here to tell the author how and what to write, but it doesn’t hurt to give him some TLC once in a while or just friends that won’t betray him and stand by him. At least give him some humanity that his traumatised soul is still capable of.
So I'm gonna start this off by saying the review will be about both the book and the author. I have read every book wrote on this platform so far and the author has always loved the cold, genius, highly intellectual MC type. The ones who use there brains more then strength. Over time we have seen our authors writing mature to show this in better and better ways. With this one being the best BY FAR. I believe the author has finally found the perfect fighting style for the type of MCs he likes. that being an assassin With every other MC the author has written there fighting style often required them to use brute strengths at times. With this one being an assassin fits perfectly as assassin's are horrible at face on fights. The MC is cold, highly intellectual, and emotionless. Which is shown in every fight and interaction the MC has. Working purely on logic and nothing else The power system is simple ( So far, as that can change as the book is still in the early stages.) Which i acutally think works perfectly for the theme of the story and is a nice contrast from a highly complex power system that the authors other book GA has. I don't want to do any spoilers. But the authors word choices for certin things and certin sentences are actually immaculate and convey something the author has conveyed in every other book so far much better. I truely believe the author has found the perfect blend for his writing style and I hope to see more books similar to this in the future and that it doesn't change for this book ad we progress. Best work yet. 10 out 10. Your missing out if you don't read it
Awespec has a unique talent for crafting compelling characters and maintaining a steady, immersive story progression. My journey with his novels began with RING and continued through GAB, DD, GA, and finally Rivers of Night. What stands out in his storytelling is not just the protagonist’s rise to power but the anticipation of what comes next—each step in the journey feels significant, making the progression truly engaging. Unlike many cultivation novels where the time spent in each realm can feel arbitrary, Awespec takes a different approach. His methodical world-building and clear power distinctions create an environment where the reader can feel the weight of each realm and the pressure that comes with it. So far, he has only introduced three realms, yet each one is distinct and impactful, reinforcing the stakes at every level. Initially, I was curious about the protagonist having only water-based abilities—would that be enough? But as the story unfolded, it became clear that true strength isn’t about stacking countless powers. Even if Awespec had introduced additional elements like thunder (in line with the MC’s surname, Gale), I would still be satisfied with the mastery over water alone. The novel proves that an overpowered character isn’t just about having multiple abilities—it’s about having a strategic mind and enough power to change the course of events when it truly matters. Awespec’s writing shines because he doesn’t rush the journey or rely on flashy power-ups. Instead, he builds tension, depth, and a world that makes every breakthrough feel earned. His novels aren’t just about reaching the peak of strength; they make you excited for what happens after. That, more than anything, is what keeps me turning the pages.
Reveal SpoilerAwespec coming out with another BANGER! If you haven’t read a book by Awe before, then you’re in for a journey. Just sit back, relax, grab some snacks, and enjoy the show!
In my opinion, this is one of the best revenge stories out of the whole site. Done extremely well in term of eastern/slightly western mix fantasy. The highlight is obviously the fight and the main character being out for blood and revenge with infinite aura farm. Of course, this story set up uses the basic there’s always a sky above the sky set up which can feel abit lacking in term of world development which is going to be an issue once the main story point ends (the revenge part) and I hope the author wrap up the story by then. But otherwise. This is a really enjoyable read.
Idk why some of the reviews are unworthy to look at but well, everyone has their own opinion — they are entitled to it. But as for me, I can say with all honesty that this book is awesome. You know the feeling of reading a book and then you begin to get the feelings of being inside the book yourself... like you are one of the characters. I get that a lot. This is just how amazing it is. The author doesn't deserve the bad reviews... and out of respect he doesn't delete them. I'd say we stop the bad reviews and appreciate the author's effort. If you don't like the book, simply pass. It's not a 'do or die thing'.
Amazing book so far. Awespec has done it again and continue to put out nothing but greatness. Read this if you love smart and ruthless mc 🫡🫡🫡
This is my first novel by this author. I’ve read all available chapters and I’m hooked and really enjoy the story. I really like the MC and understand his mindset and his mission, but it would be nice to know the real MC, his real face, once he accomplishes his mission, and to also read about MC who also lives for himself.
Absolute cinema. Awespec is the king of slow-burn, but this one is still engaging and moving at a decent pace. See you all in 2000 chapters.
Author Awespec
OK, a review for another work by Master Awespec. Yes, he has cooked peak once again. My favorite part of the novel isn't really the main character—although he is lit—but the depth of the world, the magic system, and the rich history given to nearly everything. The writing is superb, naturally, with no grammatical errors, and the subtle poetic touch he adds to some descriptions makes it an even more amazing read. Although I believe the characters could benefit from a little more detailed internal musings, I feel like they were left out to maintain a sense of mystery, which I would say is a nice trade-off. So, I guess it's alright. Overall, an amazing work that is definitely going to make its way to the top of the rankings.
