Jin fan, made a promise with his grandpa to keep his sister and family safe and keep the necklace, he swore to fulfill his promise until that 'day' arrived... he.. failed his promise... he vowed to kill whoever did this and bring back his family and find out the mysteries of the higher realms and his necklace given to him by his grandpa.
