Synopsis
[WPC #228 3rd place winner]
At the sound of trumpets being blown, people turn into zombies. Johnathan and his other two friends try to survive this apocalypse. But is this a normal zombie apocalypse?
Johnathan and this friends question this when they find a blood-red crystal come out of a zombie they killed. The aura it gives off is basically telling Johnathan to eat it, but he stops himself from doing so. However, because of some circumstances, Johnathan eats it. Not knowing what it'll do to him, he fears the worst. Death. But before this apocalypse, he watched and read many fantasy stories. So he got a little excited. What if it gives you power?' And because of that what if, he gambled his life.
Not long after eating the crystal, he screamed in pain. His friends feared he had died but not long after, Johnathan stood up.
He got what he gambled his life for.
How will he use this power?
Is this really only a zombie apocalypse? Or is it something more?

- The beginning is a little rushed, but it gets better. I plan on writing a prologue with a better start, but I still need to find time to do that. SO until then, Just bare with the rushed start. If you do, it'll be worthwhile.

So far im really enjoying this novel. the grammar isnt bad and though some earlier chapters may need some editing, i believe over all, its not bad. The beginning was a bit rushed but if you over look that the slower pace the novel has after the first few chapters is really nice. The characters arent perfect and they seem pretty human to me. We still havent seen too much developement with danny and ivan but im sure itll come. it is quite early into the novel after all. The powers are interesting, and its nice to see them not too overpowered right from the beginning. Johnathan may have a very op ability but its good that he has restrictions on it. Over all, for where it is right now, I believe it deserves 5 stars. however that might change later on so thats when ill do a follow up review.
It's a good novel. If you look past the obviously rushed first chapter, there's nothing terrible about it. Writing quality 5*- Apart from the first few chapters, the grammar is good. Even those first few chapters are better than a good majority of the novels I've read on here. Though the grammar could always improve, 5 stars, for now, seem appropriate. Stability of updates 5*- Simple. The author releases at least one chapter a day. Story development 5*- It's too early into the novel to really say but for now I think it's going in the right direction. Character design 5*- Is going in the right direction. The characters and their reactions are genuine enough for a work of fiction and I got nothing to complain about. I enjoy Johnathan and the other twos characters. I also like their powers. Again, I have nothing to complain about. World Background 4*- This is by far the worst thing in this novel. However, that's compared to everything I reviewed so far. The world-building isn't bad but so far nothing's really shown how the world changed since the start. But I can understand why nothings really been said. in the novel, not much time has passed. Around 1 or 2 days. Which isn't long at all. So I have hope that once more time passes, the author will explain how everything changed and focus more on world-building. So that is my review. I hope this is helpful to those who are hesitant or are debating on whether to read. It's a good novel, but it's a bit early to decide and give a definite score. However, everything said, I believe the novel is quite promising. With the small teasers the author gave in the beginning, I doubt it'll only be zombies. Overall, I say this novel is a 4.8. It could go up or down, but for now, I say it's a reasonable score. Thanks for reading, and Author, I hope you keep up the good work. I do suggest rewriting the first chapter and extending it so it's less rushed and more natural.

It's a good novel. I enjoy it a lot and think that once it has more chapters, it'll be one of the bests on this site. It already has better grammar than most of the novels I've read so that's a plus. Other than that, the powers are cool and the Mc is rational but still shows that he's human. Overall, if we give it time to grow, the novel will be amazing. So for now, I'll give it 5 stars. I just hope author doesn't rush anything.
Good novel. Nothing I'd change. Enjoyable and easy to read. Interesting abilities and a good power system. The power system has been done a couple of times but it's not bad and it's easy to follow for the readers. I like how the mc isn't overly OP and has some limits. It's also nice seeing someone with time abilities. Probably one of the coolest ones out there. I look forward to the future of this book and hope it gets the recognition it deserves.

Now that the first volume is done, here's my review and what I think. Writing quality- There are still some chapters I have yet to edit, but other than them I can safely say that the writing quality is good. I use both Grammarly and ProWriting as ways to edit my work, so I would hope the time I spend editing my work with them is worth it. Stability of updates- I can admit that this is the area I need most work in. I enjoy writing but it's more of a hobby. So with things like projects from school, work, etc. I find myself unable to write that frequently. However, I always find time to write at least one to two chapters a week. However, now that I'm done with projects and work, I have more time to focus on writing. Character design- I feel like this category is good. But it's still too soon to tell. Johnathan is far from perfect and still acts pretty immaturely, but he tries to keep that to a minimum since he doesn't want to die. In fights, all he does really is basic things like punches and kicks. Since he doesn't have any training. Other than that, there's not much else to say. It's still too early in the story to go in depth about his character. World Background- Same as the last one. Too soon to say anything. All we know now is that humans are turned into zombies and can evolve. That and the world is trying to save as many people as they can with 'bases'. Since the first volume was mostly the introduction to the apocalypse the world-building wasn't too focused on. I focused more on the rescue arc, and the powers they get. However, the second volume will have a lot more world-building and will show the results of the apocalypse. Other things- Only 24- 30 hours passed since the apocalypse started. The three got right into it and became strong quickly. However, they only seem strong since no other characters were introduced that had powers. The only reason why they got a good handle on mana was because of anime, manga, novels, etc. With those in mind, they progressed pretty quickly. They definitely won't get strong as fast in the future since... Cant really spoil. Anyway, I hope you give the novel a chance and enjoy it. Thanks for reading!
