Have your heard of Worm?
This is comparable in quality and quantity.
The main character is Hector, a young black man who commits suicide but is brought back by a Reaper in exchange for his services.
It starts small then explodes.
The superpowers/hard magic system runs on some background fundamentals that are just coming to the forefront, I guess in that sense one could compare it with the Cosmere books.
The update speed is quite slow and the author is prone to going on hiatuses, you're forewarned.
My favorite novel so far, great characters, great development, great plot, little by little it introduces you to a more complex world and when you think this is as complex as it gets, it will get even better. It also has great sense of humor
One of the best novels I have read on Webnovel this is the true definition of a hidden gems. The Dynamic between reapers and their servants is one of the best unique points of the novel but seeing how they react towards each other and how each of their personalities mesh is always entertaining.
One of the best books I read (And I read more than a thousand in Russian, English, and Chinese). It starts slowly, but then bloom in some really unique story with world background as deep as in Franklin Herbert "Dune" or Isaac Asimov "Foundation" (Thousands of years of history, many countries, many powers).
Just enough drama and humor, enough action and breaks of tranquility, perfect characters with brilliant stories.
I hope it will become bestseller one day.
One of the best novel out in the Web,
It also has a unique power system which is a really well thought out and balance if I must say.
It has a slow start and the MC also is not like the other MC from other novels where they become powerful in just 10 or so chapters.
MY FAVOURITE WEB NOVEL
I am up to date up to the latest pages(on the official site), and I must say the story is really good and been a fan for over six years.
If you have the time, give it a try and you might find yourself in a story unlike any other.
This novel should be one of the best in webnovel as characters, a refreshing plot and a story that attracts you from the first chapters, he hoped that the author will continue with this project and not leave it halfway through.
Some observations/thoughts I had that you might find more or less important:
The title is misleading, Zombie in it seems to mean an immortal superpowered person who is paired up with one of many reapers(who also were originally humans).
The initial premise of finding regular people who are going to die some time in the future, figuring out some way to prevent their death and then dealing with consequences of whatever weird stuff the MC had to do in order to do that is quickly abandoned in favour of battles between the good and evil superpowered people.
Personality and interactions of the MC are really nice and interesting and his backstory/starting situation was something I appreciated even if I'm not sure what I think of it.
Most action scenes are boring and make my eyes glaze over.
MC has a love interest but it's clearly not the focus of the story, also she ends up being sort of sterile so that the author can say people should adopt more.
The world is sexist and most characters love to point out how that sucks without doing anything about it.
Racism seems to be an issue that rarely gets brought up but the wildly different world history makes it feel somewhat fresh and interesting(ie. warlike slave using nation that conquered large parts of the world before breaking up was presumably mostly black)
One point of different but similar world seems to be to paint thing more black and white than they'd be if modern earth was the setting.
Many characters are really nice and interesting but not all of them making some PoV chapters feel like a slog.
MC's abilities and powers grow pretty nicely.
Sad event happens and is nice but...
There's a tragic and ****ed up situation that happens at some point and it's really nice overall with the consequences of it for the MC being important but the issue is that it did a great job at making me invested in seeing the antagonist get defeated but then the antagonist actually dies right away and we're left with only vague bad guys that the MC doesn't really have personal issues with.
Some situations make me think that the author subscribes to the idea that subversion of expectations is always great even when that makes a more boring story(ie. at one point it seemed clear that a new "party member" was being introduced but then they died making me go "oh, I didn't expect that and I suppose all that stuff did serve some minor purpose but I'm still disappointed.").
Overall I'd say it's not bad but as I kept reading it and wondering if I really want to read it I eventually decided that no, there isn't really anything that I'm looking forward to happening and even if there are some interesting bits they'll be surrounded by too many boring fight scenes or such.
This is a really good book. The main character is really intresting and has some pretty good interactions with the others due to his personality. Im about 30 chapters in and I can't to see how he evolves.
Alright mc starts as this self conscious introverted stuttering low self esteem kid who lets everyone walk all over him and lets people take advantage of his kindness. You know the miserable type emo kids with no friends. Then some stuff happens and I don’t remember how exactly it plays out but he gets this ghost type being called reapers. They are beings who can’t die unless killed by extraordinary powers. Well at first he freaks out and tries to deny things and somehow the reaper convinces him to save people to get used to his powers to and get his self esteem up. By the way he finds out his powers are controlling iron. In case anyone is wondering this is a slow storyline telling with a bunch of action everywhere he goes. In fact everything he’s apart of always go south first then he helps pick up the pieces that remains. Also did I mention he’s practically immortal? What I mean by that he can still get hurt ie get limbs ripped off or combust into blood. Hell you can practically burn him to smithereens and here comes the reaper and brings the immortal back to life. The reapers powers are go through any animated objects that are mortal made and be able to revive their partners(the immortals) each partner(I forgot the actual name they are called) has a different power there’s no good or evil when it comes to reapers and their partners there is just different ideologies think of naruto and you would understand what I mean.now there are currently 205 chapters going on right now. And he has met couple gods he Meets different factions that are against him or try to use him. he also kills giant worms that been trying to kill him. He helps other reaper factions, shelters them and he improves him self. He becomes less and less of everything I mention before except he stutters a lot and still don’t talk much to anybody unless he has too. In the 200s it’s been I think a year or so since chapter one I’m not sure though. But he’s been made interesting skills with his iron. Their are
I have read to about volume 4 and i must say this a great novel with quite an intressting power system and likable characters (could do with a bit more world building as in how do the normal people vieuw servants (they can't see reapers), after all they are immortals with unique powers.
But all in all a great novel
