If they actually wanted to support the new generation, there should be holds on future childbirth until a stable supply can be formed and proper policy formulated to deal with population growth. Theoretically, their population is so young that the only deaths are from their travels and there is only net population gain.

First off, having a doctor nearby can help but women can give birth with or without a doctor in most cases, so with proper triage you can greatly reduce the need for medical personnel.
And the need for milk powder seems dubious, maybe in a few percent of mothers this would be needed but otherwise mankind has fed it's babies without milk powder for millenia... It's like the author is making up difficulties for the sake of it.
