That's a great point and one the author routinely answers with humans are better than bots. Otherwise the novel would be about a neurologically malfunctioning AI, rather than a neurotic Advanced Mech Designer.
Please don't ask which I would prefer to read more, I am having enough trouble understanding this story arc. View More

Zug: Anyone else find it odd they need neurological interface at all? Also somethings are just better left to ai control systems anyways, like controlling flight surfaces, balancing, and Reaction control systems. Humans are slow&blunt creatures compared to machines even more so with an AI. Having a brain interface isn't going to change the above either.

I once had a very complex machine with all the bells and whistles installed. After its run-in period had elapsed heat and vibration alarms started to crop up. Emergency shutdowns resulted, inspection panels removed and external readings were taken to verify the alarms. Nothing was identified and the manufacturer had no explanation other than the technology was, new, cutting edge and never implemented in this manner before.
The issue resolved itself to be a sensitivities problem and the solution was a combination sampling rate and rate of change. This is a frustrating issue, production wanted the sensors permanently removed, but after setting the sensitivity low enough the people who operated the machine could remain in ignorant bliss everyone was happy.
Until the day the alarm went off again and production who had gained awareness of the methods to alter sensitivity to zero cause a catastrophic failure to go unnoticed. Though technical staff were blamed, I data logged all changes to ensure my technical staff would not abuser their privilege to change settings without verifying for an actual failure.
The takeaway is it's human to be lazy, ignore problems and deflect blame. Once you loose faith in technology it's hard to win it back. Will Ves start reducing the biofeedback on future Mechs or will he learn what is important and what is annoying? View More

The_Unprofessional: This aptitude raising could come in handy at some point. Maybe if he did it in a two or three phase model? If everything is green and ok, update every minute, if it is yellow update every 2 seconds, if red and critical, every half second. But if a lot of systems start failing, tvat would be a surefire kill for the pilot. So why not use some space gaffa tape, some clamps and a little spit and put a "pre cockpit" CPU on the outside. Maybe in the crotcharea. Codpieces save lives, afterall.

BattleLord: Let me surmise what I think of Ves.

Ves changed his ethics in the time it took him to walk across a Light Mech repair bay. I would describe that as forceful, determined, powerful, undaunted, sure footed, quick natured and unwavering in the strides he has made thus far.

Sorry... I was describing his walk, instead of how quickly his moral compass spun and wobbled back and forth like a limp dick. It's ardour never stiffened by either Iris's beautiful rebel passion or Ketis's devil claim me now, fighting spirit. Nolsen's strong presence has been there every time Ves's gun has gone off lately. Perhaps I should have added swish when describing Ves's walk.

How hard is it to disable all feedback, program an AI to pilot the Mech on a collision course with the other Mech and self destruct on impact while jettisoning the pilot? A nice spectacular explosion, everyone loves fireworks!

I am writing this daily review for the bonus experience. While that is the truth, it is also true that Reincarnation of the Strongest Sword God (RSSG by us Fans) is a great story I know you will enjoy reading and gifting to daily.
If you enjoy anime with sword action or online gaming genre you have come to the right place. Anything else you watch online is your own business and not portrayed in the story <wink><wink>.
MC mysteriously wakes up 10 years in the past just before he is going to play the premiere of an online game 'Gods Domain'! For everyone that is but himself. Imagine starting a new game with all the knowledge and skills of a 10 year veteran. This story chronicles the MC's growth and hopefully answer's why he jumped back 10 years in the first place. BattleLord: Is making money a moral choice, no matter how you achieve it. If that's true, he definitely has morals and is teaching them to Ketis. Her first reading assignment was building a successful Mech business, the one page ethics coarse was skipped.

BattleLord: Inspired by this chapter I read up on the Hippocratic Oath.

The original Greek version swears to Apollo the physician, and Asclepius, and Hygieia. The final paragraph reads:

So long as I maintain this Oath faithfully and without corruption, may it be granted to me to partake of life fully and the practice of my art, gaining the respect of all men for all time. However, should I transgress this Oath and violate it, may the opposite be my fate.

Its modern version is similar without the 21 herbs and special seasonings:

If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.

I find the modern version looses the threat of retribution from the Gods if they **** up. No wonder modern medical professionals are ok with promoting the opioid crisis.

I honestly don't think a current day or future Arms Manufacturer holds any ethical principles. The MTA laws of don't create planetary mass destruction with one Mech are a guideline at best. Hence the no grazers, nukes etc. will be accepted on your Mechs, everything else is fair game, go out and prosper.

If I had to guess, the Church of Haatumack is looking for a method of circumventing the neural connection between Pilots and Mechs for some reason. Soulless can't resolve it and has devised this Redemption Duel to elicit the help of other Mech Designers. Likely he can't get Mech Designers to help, or help for free.

This or a similar sneaky and devious plot of this nature is worthy of our author. I am certain this chapter is not as one dimensional as it appears. If nothing else, I now know why modern medicine has totally failed their patients.

BattleLord: I understand your point, I just don't believe with a limited resource like skilled labour, lobotomy works well. While it is mentioned the brainwashing is effective, is the loss of efficiency and creativity of a skilled work force effective. The Flagrant Vandals repeated major Mech issues are efficiency, every percentage counts. I find it unrealistic that the Swordmaidens boosters all performed flawlessly under these conditions. Thus I am calling BS on this chapter.

BattleLord: This chapter went down a weird black hole.

At first I thought the concept of slavery was a practical solution to a survival problem in the Frontier. Though slaves were not respected, due to scarcity, their value would be too high for mistreatment. In exchange for protection and nurturing, these experts could be enticed to perform their duties diligently.

Not everyone values freedom above security and comfort. High valued slaves might be traded between pirate clans or provided by Frontier worlds looking to avoid being pillaged.

The treatment of slaves in this manner would be expected of an extremist pirate Clan that had near unlimited resources to support a disposable workforce. Even then, there's a finite number of skilled individuals in or near the Frontier. Would skilled individuals or higher education services even be desired by these communities.

I think the author has bought into the myth that wherever slavery existed, deplorable conditions must follow and the inevitable degradation of humanity in the region. Supply and demand usually determines human behaviour. When you have a surplus of Mech Pilots and Fighters, whose maintenance cost is higher than the few slaves you have running everything of value. You need to always be at war to manage the disparages.

If the Frontier is as vast, empty and dangerous, this system of survival should have burned itself out. Continents such as Africa and North America may have employed slaves while colonization occurred. The difference was the slaves were not skilled individuals and there were an almost unlimited supply. Thus their value was low and the treatment was poor.

Pruf: Let's admit here: Ves have no morality. Even times when he "cares" he talks about his reputation or danger from MTA then anything else.

BattleLord: Ves opened his con and called the Angels Wing Foundation Black Market. The Attendant answered, "AWF VR Black Market, member name and card number please?" Ves replied, "Ves Larkenson, first time member, swiping my card now."
The Attendant confirmed, "Excellent, how may we serve your body altering needs today?" Ves said, "I have a Jutland Organ that is going to end my life in the next two decades."
The Attendant confirmed, "I just downloaded your file fortunately that was one of Doctor Jutland's improved models. We have an Exobeast kidney that will flush the toxins and it comes as a do-it yourself kit. There is also a rebate if you ship back your removed kidney." Ves added it to his VR shopping cart before inquiring, "The spec's on this Living Alter stomach says it it increases Spirituality!"
The Attendant nodded, "Very rare, it also provides all your daily vitamins and minerals by consuming human hosts." Ves smiled, "That is convenient." Clicking the add feature and cashing out.
"That comes to 500 K-bar and includes delivery, and a brainwashed physician who can be eaten to ensure your new stomach is fully operational. Thank you for shopping AWF VR Black Market.", the smiling Attendant closed the link.
Ves was happily surprised, "I even earned 500 AWF Club Points!"
