He was Salazar's prized student, blablabla" you get the idea right. yeah, no, you don't even consider the mafia chick, voldy being OP, Sirius, Andromeda is buddy-buddy with Bella, based on the chapter itself Merlin was not mentioned as a Slytherin graduate but instead as a significant figure, which is an Arthurian Legend take. that's the short of it, since I have too much time and am bored out of my mind here is a mini essay to enjoy. #essay version wrong, if you want to point out who causes the butterfly, it is not even the MC, the mafia chick is the cause, Voldemort was the cause since he somehow is linked to the Netherworld, The mysterious group was the cause, MC dad happens to be the cause of a change, probably because he accidentally somehow, stumbled upon them and knew stuff he shouldn't have about the mystery group. If that didn't happen, Bellatrix change won't even happen since probably they met when MC dad was being hunted, hints of other entities intervening with that world since the mafia chick was hinted to belong to another entity, possibly this other entity is not alone hence netherworld stuff. AR doesn't want that and decides to play the game these entities are playing, bringing other souls from another world or "pick a random person and give them a system". MC having the system and stuff is just a byproduct of the first change caused by an anomaly. From a story point of view, MC is "the unlucky guy to be trapped between a rock and a hard place" if this butterfly effect didn't even happen, he won't be a street urchin stealing stuff and dragged in to deal with supercharged Voldemort. IT IS AU, it will never be because one person if the "the past" changes too, not just one simple change. Voldemort OP, Bellatrix is a minister, Sirius is free from the start of 1st year of Potter, Andromeda is in communication with Bella, and duh, the history is magic is even changed since "Merlin" in here is heavily hinted towards Arthurian legends, no mention about him being Slytherin, based on what is written there in the chapter, irrelevant to my previous comment since it was a reply to whether Merlin was a Slytherin or not, which he was, "was" because he is dead and graduated. I can still go on, but I digress.
