This is an Egyptian mystery. I think. Honestly I don't know, but there are some mysterious stuff going on. It is, however, hidden behind a metric ton of talking head dialogue.
A brutal use of time jumps backwards and forward in time makes for a very confusing read, and I can't see why we have so much of it since the first five or six chapters are spent introducing the characters.
The second half of the story published this far brings us into an Egyptian mystery, or a Korean one, but that was two years ago, but there was a delivery from Korea recently...
Writing: Four stars. Non-standard English and a very peculiar way of using time-stamps for scene transitions detracts from the reading experience.
Updates. Five stars. Looks solid enough.
Story. It does develop, and it develops along the right track. But, and this is a big but, it's an unholy mess trying to follow the different timelines. I'll still give four stars.
Character. Four stars. I believe they are decent enough, but they're drowned in a splurge of endless dialogue.
World. It's set in Egypt, because it says so in the chapter lables. Or it's set somewhere else when that's stated in the beginning of a chapter. I wouldn't know. I need that label to know where the current torrent of dialogue is spoken. Is it hot in Egypt? Does the air smell of sand? Does the salty evaporated Mediterranean water sting on your skin in the sun? I don't know. I never get to know. Three stars. The Infinite Duo: Bennu Effect
StenDuring: This review is part of a review swap and valid as of chapter five.
Five chapters is nowhere near what's needed for a decent review, and some aspects of the story just doesn't have time to shape up.
In short we have a prologue where our lead bemoans a relationship gone south. Then rewind the clock half a year back in time and the story proper starts.
At chapter five we've not even begun the story proper. One mystery has been introduced, and that's that.
Thus we don't know if the story is about what lead up to the heart break, or if we'll get there halfway into a story which then is switches to how the mess gets cleaned up.
The author did manage to squeeze in an alarm-clock and mirror start. I'm still uncertain if that was deliberate irony or not.
Writing. Three stars. Shaky English and a non-standard transition between scenes makes for a confusing read. By non-standard I mean that a conversation ends, one line reads 'ten minutes later' and a new conversation starts. And, there are conversations. Lots and lots and lots of conversations. To the degree it sometimes looks like a script.
Updates: Five stars. I won't bash a story with only five chapters on this one.
Story: Four stars. The story develops as much as is possible between the oratory expositions of the characters.
Character: Four stars. Gets a little drowned by massive amounts of dialogue.
World: Three stars. Something had to go. Normally I'd warn an author too much exposition. This is one of the few occasions I've run into too little. The result is that I too often simply don't know where I (as a reader) am.
If you're reading this review with triple the number of chapters published compared to when I wrote it, then World should most likely have evolved to four stars by means of more text. The Infinite Duo: Perfect Strangers
WinterBud: K-Pop fans of all walks and from other parts of the world should give this a try, you'll find a thing or three to giggle about. It isn't clear in the first couple of chapters what the focus would be, the narrative details the events of the day to day so it's hard to gauge at the beginning which parts will be important for later development, but the question of how the future story would tie in with the Preface is intriguing. Did I mention the K-Pop aspects would be interesting to fans? Keep writing, author, reach those finish lines ^^The Infinite Duo: Perfect Strangers
