I think it's just a policy for any chinese media to promote china master race kind of ideals nowadays. I, for one, still enjoy the story since it's quite the interesting plot, but the blatant use of or other franchise settings and names (The Rift, seriously?) gets annoying from time to time. So to anyone new to this story, this is a tip that you should use for any story similar to this; "Don't think the place they are mentioning in the tory is the same place you know in real life"
