ainexi: But doesn't it change with time what people find as beautiful or handsome? In Stone Age a strong Hunter would have been desirable. So why does Gehrman Sparrow need to be a feast for the eyes for other to fangirl? I really don't remember if he is average looking or not but how says that if you remove his crazy part of his personality, he wouldn't be popular work ladies? They might have a complete different taste in the story.Lord of the Mysteries · C622
Surely_Panda: Look like the admiral have a artifact related to the Eternal Blazing Sun. I always find things related to the sun to be horrible and hilarious. On one hand he got an artifact that turn inanimate object into Disney characters. On the other hand brainwashing. It seemed there is no truly good diety in this setting.Lord of the Mysteries · C622

Daoist952758: I have found one other novel with this quality of writing. Supreme Magus. (Check it out). The men behind both novels are literal geniuses. The world is incredible. The characters incredible. The story is literally perfect. I'm literally lost for words. The best way to understand what im saying is just to read it for yourself. I only picked it up 2 or 3 days ago and I can't put it down. Literally. Ive racked up about 12 hours in the past 2 days of reading it. One fourth of my day is spent reading it amd as soon as im done with this review I'll go back to reading. I dont want to explain to much as I feel that the real beauty of the story lies in becoming one with the protagonist. You really feel invested in his life as if it were your own. All because of how well crafted the writing is. Simply explaining how the story unfolds wouldnt do it justice. Neither does it's name or summary. This story could be divided into hundreds of smaller ones due to how well written the plot is. I highly suggest you just read the first chapter. I promise you'll be hookedParagon of Destruction
Zyst: An incredible novel, can't believe this isn't higher ranked.
This is a fantasy story with an incredibly interesting world, and cool characters. I would highly recommend giving it a shot!Paragon of Destruction
Maghliona: Great story with wonderful world building. If you are looking for non stop action move on. If you want a story with very realistic human behavior then give ilthis one a try.Paragon of Destruction
Rhadamanthine: Like many other reviewers, I nearly dropped this story early on. The power levels are all over the place, the main character solves nearly every conflict with macguffins, and extremely powerful people inexplicably take an interest in him and hand him fortunes...for some reason.
However! These issues go away almost entirely once he gets to the shadowflame society. He still gets great opportunities, but he puts in effort for them. He trains his ass off, and actually solves conflicts through some modicum of personal effort and forethought. He makes mistakes, but learns from them. The writing quality and characterization get better, and there is some very satisfying progression without the power scale making things seem meaningless.
It helps that the system the author sets up isn't typical for the genre. Instead of having levels of power that automatically beat less powerful people, there are a lot of ways to gain power. For instance, mages are ranked by how much essence (mana, basically) their bodies hold, but to actually effectively control it, they need to refine (or buy) essence into a pure form, then absorb it, as well as train their sensory skills to better see the flow of essence. Then they need to train their skills for each realm (type of mana basically, like fire or shadow) and learn spells. Mages (and fighters) can learn insights which make them even more powerful, etc etc.
Of course, if someone just focuses on becoming a mage and doesn't train their body cultivation (which is similarly in depth), close combat skills, or magic resistance, they'll be weaker than someone with a more comprehensive foundation.
The main character is a generalist, though he focuses much more on swordsmanship and body refining than on magecraft.
My advice would be to start with volume two, which gives a summary of the first volume, and at least give it till chapter 100 or so.
Were this on another site, I'd give it a lower ranking for the problems mentioned with volume one, but most works here read like bad fanfiction fed through google translate, so I've adjusted the scale. Aside from the first volume, the writing quality is good enough to be published, IMO, though the prose isn't stellar or anything.Paragon of Destruction
dustin_mcvicar: Started reading this a few days ago, really enjoying the story and how it's progressing. I'm patiently waiting for the next chapter to be released.Paragon of Destruction
Claire_Williams: It starts out awkward and slow, but as it progresses it picks up and the momentum rarely ever stops. Good book with a main character I appreciate, and one I recommend to my friends.Paragon of Destruction
Succbol: This story has drawn me in since the first few chapters, having finally caught up just a day ago. I am really enjoying it. The story is well thought out, the characters make sense and feel real, the fighting is quite nice and uses more realistic elements to it compared to most fantasy stories in this genre, the main character has infinitely more depth than the majority of main characters in this genre, with most of them being invincible for no good reason, dominating everyone with a cocky attitude.
This is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise dirty atmosphere; a hidden gem. While it's not perfect, there isn't many aspects I can think of to feel the need to whine about the story.
I just hope the story lasts for a long time, hopefully 1500+ chapters, and hope that the quality remains this good. No pressure though, you have made a big fan of me.Paragon of Destruction
29th_Spirit: Well, I've tested it now. I'm a long time reader of this story. But I've been kinda dissatisfied for a while now. So now I wrote a longish review and tried to explain what's missing imho. I hope author - san doesn't delete it because I spend some of my time and thoughts on it...Supreme Magus
GK969: If this review was written a couple months ago it would be all five stars, but sadly the author doesn’t have passion he had when he started out, it’s pretty obvious that writing this has become a chore to get done with minimal effort and time as the chapter gets cut in to part 1 and 2 and released as two chapter instead of actual two chapter story progression it’s just a pathetic excuse of a filler with a repetitive cliffhanger and sadly hype up the next chapter or event for no apparent reason. Because nothing happens, nothing changes, even if something changes it will be reverted by some one dying for no good reasons, the author is just killing of character for no good reason. To sum it of, RIP to such a good novel dropping to this crappy quilty, chapter length is now barely 40% of the first 100 chapters and those short chapters are just filler.Supreme Magus
mr6: One of the best things about this book is that the MC doesnt have any crazy abilities that give him an unsurpassable edge that he uses to kill everyone. As far as the story is concerned, he's just a dude who works hard and gets results. Another thing i like about this is that occasionally the MC loses. Not all the time, but enough times to make him seem real.Paragon of Destruction · C381
TryPurple: Feels strange for me... Like you just wanted to kill off mercs so big-boys can have good time later... How a hardened-elite mercenaries can fail to have scouts, when they know there most likely are enemies around? Why wont MC use his sense or sword's...
Why would your main force not follow-up and then together face other two in favorable position... So star-metal armour fit for a Lord is so badly-made your common Blight can **** on it?Paragon of Destruction · C381
Grimlock753: The only thing the plot armor protects is his life everything else is gameParagon of Destruction · C381
Loli_Haze: So they're going to collect ~300 amulets on their first day in the desolation? I'm assuming Arran will slaughter that fourth group while Kaleesh protects the wounded... How did the enemy scouts not get detected by Arran? They must've gotten precise information about the company to organize such a perfect trap.Paragon of Destruction · C381
Paragon of Destruction · C381
YourJealousEx: I just realized.... Since none of the hunters can manipulate essence, there is no way to 'bond' with their living shadow weapons the way Arran did. They can't communicate with their living shadow weapons, they don't share their Sense, they can't even change their weapon's form. All those living, intelligent features of living shadow are basically wasted on the Hunters and they merely use them as a normal blade that is just sharper than other blades. What a waste!!! Better give those shards of living shadow to the mages! At least they can properly use them!Paragon of Destruction · C356
adsegm: So the Darian Lord's reality bending technique is from having enough understanding of reality. Could these forms have been stolen from the Darians?Paragon of Destruction · C370

BookishHymn: I love how realistic this novel is with death. The only person with any kind of plot armor is Arran and even that is more like a thin shirt on a cold day.Paragon of Destruction · C381
Red_beard: Arran not first-basing a girl before leaving, finally some progress!Paragon of Destruction · C379
29th_Spirit: Hm... I've been reading this story since the beginning. But somehow lately, it feels like all the story arcs are going no where... Like the entire Balkor or the entire Nalear arc. You can sum it up with : then there were **** nobles. Then there was betrayal. Then there was trauma + lots of coping with it. It's all very 2-dimensional. While Lith's asskicking still is kinda entertaining, this alone isn't enough for a decent plot. Was hoping for something fresh after the academy arc finished... But so far we're still in the same loop "hide powers - overpower enemies because they underestimate the MC" ... At this point I crave some new plot development. Pretty much anything really as long as it doesn't involve "protect family", "trauma", "betrayal", "hide powers" or anything else that's already overused. Perhaps give him a decent enemy! Someone smart and charismatic, perhaps even very likable (contrasting to the MC). Create some *******! Some struggle! Anything!Supreme Magus
