Are you guy using MTl novel site? there are better mtl site like MTL nation, fanmtl, or novelknight which have a better mtl translation quality, and they keep improving with newer and newer translation. in recent novel, there is no mistake with the he/she thing that is everywhere in MTLnovel site.

sadly, it very common with fanfic novel. I learn to see pattern, and avoid those novel by noticing the arc, if author story follow the original arc, timeline, special event or if character interaction doesn't change their decision making, then it will be a copy paste.

Author on webnovel tend to make their mc this way, sometimes even baiting reader with background information that would lead us to believe at least the mc is competent, only to read about how pathetic he act. best example of bait is reincarnated/transmigrated mc, which usually around 18-40 years old, but after the isekai, their IQ drop massively. Best advise if author really want a weak to strong mc, is to not have those. best example is er gen work like renegade immortal, ISSTH, etc. All the mc start out with a very bad condition, and have to learn the hard way from their mistake. In renegade immortal, the mc even regret becoming a cultivator, because his mistake lead to his clan being destoryed. after revenge, he left with emptyness. the list can go on. But One point, I see often is that author who bait reader, usually try to lied to keep people, but deliver a opposite of what their promise. I lose patience with webnovel author, I would rather read mtl poision chinese novel than webnovel, because at least I know what to expect, since most chinese author give clear view of how they gonna write, if it nationalism, we will know within 5 chapter, if it having anything remotely near ntr territory, we got notice way before we read them. if the mc is braindead, we will know within 10 chapter. Not like some webnovel author that lie to reader.

It start out quite decent, using the netori trope of Chinese novel where the mc is a side character trying to steal the heroine of the story, that why it has villain in the name, as it part of the trope. But the story turn stale because the author doesn't want to follow the original trope of stealing heroine, however, that still okay, as the mc already have a harem, and the story focus more on their development, which have the slice of life feel into it, boring but not bad. Then, all of a sudden, it turn into a "Chen Beixuan" trope where the mc will make the smallest of problem, and turning it into a very big problem where no one can step down, due to the mc non-existing pride that somehow being so big it unreal. The story is so messy and full of inconsistency, and worse of all, we have that system that force mc to do thing with threat which the mc comply with(showing that his pride is not that much) but later, it turn into the system that doing everything for your own good, because of the audience complain. all in all, I feel that, this story has a decent start, but author is trying to many thing and it mess up the consistency of how the story should be written. The harem itself also very bad as mc like to have messy relationship and cheating on his wife with one night stand and etc, despite her telling him to let her know if he want another girl in his harem.

Talking about infidelity, I feel that, it part of the author fetish. I read most of his story, and even though in the end, it all end up as harem, but the author always make the girl have expectation of it not being a harem, but just pure 1-1 relationship. Then have another girl seduce the mc and one after another push themselves toward the mc.

This sum up the worst plot I ever read. Also, I really hate how this author always have the mc characteristic be very inconsistent, and just do the most random of thing. Here, mc all of a sudden turn into a bloodlust character that want to kill everyone that resist him (Chen Beixuan template). MC know the plot, but act so un-prepare, it just feel stupid.

Ranting: Honestly, I'm just very skeptical because, I was trick into reading a lot of Masochistic type of mc because some author use the not perfect mc as description, but they end up over abusing the mc, and making the mc really become non realistic, and take thing too far. One story I read, they make the mc character very unstable as sometimes, he deal with thing very smoothly, but later, with similar problem, he left behind so many red flag that the author intentionally make the mc left behind on purpose, and even write that the mc are aware of it, and ignore it, and use those red flag to attack the mc later. When they could have just make the mc not aware of it in the first place. Anyway, I'll read this story now

This is the extreme case on the original guy end, But I can kind of understand a bit, because I start out reading xianxia, and the people in those story are very processive, Which is more in line with traditional culture, as no one like to be cucked, but traditional culture take pride on being more conservative, and don't like their loved one to have impure thought on other. opposite of western culture where married couple can casually talk about which celebrity they want to f to each other, and really have a hate for virgin person and their value, because it the opposite of themselves and vise versa for the traditional one as well. I feel like webnovel should take note of this and create a separation for novel tag that use ancient culture and modern culture, because people have been spreading hate just because the story they read contain content that they don't like. especially nowadays when the novel using modern values really get into the ntr stuff, like the Milf, sometimes it netori mc cheating his own mother from his own father, sometimes, stealing wife from his enemy or just find the wife attractive and steal her. Those are sin, but people really enjoy it, and author will do anything to make the victim of the cheater as the one at false, like making the victim don't really like the wife, or being neglectful etc just to justify the mc coming in to cheat. then the netore part which is even worse, but author often play a plur it as free for all, no lover relationship what so ever, different world culture, etc. Now some of those line are enjoy by reader, but most if not all traditional person don't really want to read it, but there no way to know unless you read it, but most review are too extreme or bias, and do not provide any useful info unless we dig deeper. In this case, it was the girl having crush on other guy, despite being the mc childhood friend, now in a harem story, this feel like a red flag, as it will feel forced when the relationship happen between them, example: like she love mc all a long, or mc use trick to get her or whatever, it just feel like the plot forced it. And most reader prefer devoted girl compare to one that don't like you from the beginning, best example is sakura and hinata. anyway, too much ranting, sorry about that.

Disclaimer: This novel couldn't really be call a harem story, smut yes, multiple girl yes, but it mostly an open relationship like modern day girlfriend and boyfriend relationship. It just the mc turn for the girl, and he is not the first, so far, 7 girl that lemon with the mc are all experienced. Webnovel author like to put harem in the name, but even in Islamic countries wear they still allow harem culture to continues, Harem is not just a guy who have multiple relationship with casual girl. I think we should separate the harem name with westernize culture as they don't mix. Although it normal to not be a virgin in western culture, it is not in other culture, You can call me a virgin for saying this, but we are more traditional about responsibility, If you want experienced girl, just write it as a smut story, don't polluted harem concepted with casual sex culture. You all say you will love each other forever, but it mostly temporary, and you guy will move on to next relationship, even marriage doesn't work out long term for you guy. Cheating is so common, there even a genre dedicated to netori mc cheating the wife of other men, and try to find any excuse to justify your cheating behavior It kind of sickening.

I recommend reading unordinary webtoon, it will bring you some inspiration to your story.

You just take thing to extreme end on both side? I don't mind story where mc fail sometimes, but some story just intentionally always make the MC braindead, act like a child, or having inconsistency with the character design itself, not all of MC have to be either mary sue or braindead. But author usually fail to develop an MC that are good, but not perfect, usually they go over the top and it just become too much. I have read story where mc have flaw, it usually the military novel author that done it right, reader can see the mc thought, and sometimes think the same as the mc only to find out that those thinking is not perfect. Some MC make great military leader, but fail as a family head, and create a spoil young master. When author create an MC that need time to do 1 thing, and he forgot about other important thing, he just doesn't have the time to do both at the same time. that mc is a good mc, not a mary sue, because that just mostly wishfulfilment novel, and not a braindead mc, because that a fail product. Back to the question I ask of you, I will make it clearer, I want to know weather your novel gonna be a fail imitation like intentionally change the mc IQ to be lower or higher depend on weather you want him to faceslap himself. Because that would just create inconsistency. Japanese author consistently write a mc that start out very bad, and develop over time. While most will view it as a bad mc, webnovel writer have made much worse mc because they want to create an anti mary sue mc, but just go too far. In fact, most mary sue mc hater, don't really hate the mary sue, but the fail imitation of mary sue which is the young master mc, which always go over the top because chinese author like to copy plot without putting soul into their story.

It would have been more enjoyable if the side character act differently due to different person who change their live, like an alternative version, bring more deep into the story, but webnovel writer probably don't have that ability if they are writing fan-fic, there are like 1 in 100 of fan-fic that are well written, then 90% are rewrite of the original, and 9% of them are original story which include element of the anime like character, world build, but they are a seperate story from the original, which is similar to what lightnovel author do sometime, like the index, and railgun series which take place in the same world, and same time, but with different main character that interact with each other.

maybe it could have been ghost writer, that is common in chinese novel industry. like all of a sudden you feel like the mc or the story become inconsistence. Sometime author just sell the right of the novel to a company that find ghost writer to continue it, or just hired one.

From what i see, the mind control part is the author mistake if they mention not wanting to use it, but do so anyway. but i haven't fully read it yet, so not sure. This author is nice though, unlike some author i knew who keep promising no ntr, but keep writing about ntr.

I'm kind of concern with the mc slapping himself trope, is it like a masochistic story where the mc always fail? or just that mc not gonna always win and do take a lose sometime type of story?

Same, i like Ai fan-fic, but the LGBTQ tag put me on hold, don't know if it yuri or yaoi and for side character or main character, there just no clue what gonna happen, so i will be on hold till someone spoil it.
