Hassanein_Fadhel: Haha the more you love PoD the more you feel the suffering of waiting. I have checked the website 5 times a day every single day since 394, first I hoped it would take 1 day for Tom to return, then 2 days, then 3 days, now I hope he will produce one after 11 days. Welcome to the club the #waitingclub

Thanks for the explanation. That helps!
One last thing that broke my immersion: ch 394 says that the forms he obtained focus on fire and shadow, yet in ch 315 he seemed to pick out all the forms needed for windblade, forceshield, and essence draw. I guess those were only the forms that they share with fire and shadow? View More

TomVanDyke: He realized in chapter 370 that his initial view of the Forms was wrong, and that they are to be studied "as a whole rather than a set of parts," since studying each also helps him understand all the others.

Since he'd memorized all the Forms, at that point he takes a different approach and starts studying the whole rather than the parts.

I suppose my description of that may not have been entirely clear, though.

Chapter 315 says that the amulet has thousands of forms, and Arran chose a little over a hundred to practice: the ones for wind blade, force shield, and essence draw. So he has been working with less than 10% of the forms that he has. View More

We don't know if Blight-Lords have insights, so escape and defeat are both believable.

If the Blight-Lord has an insight into speed or an always-on-sea-of-insights like Arran or if he can wound Arran's legs with magic or can trap Arran with magic, then Arran can't escape.

But if Arran isn't trapped or damaged by magic AND if the Blight-Lord has no insights that help his speed, then it is believable for Arran to escape without a Dios-Ex-Machina (e.g., Darians show up, or Arran has a sudden insight into speed, or Panurge saves Arran, or ...). View More

Since Kaleesh has a true insight into speed, he might still be faster than Arran and thus might able to escape a reaver-lord if he flees before he is attacked. And Arran needs Kaleesh to figure out how to get benefits from the Darians without being trapped by them.

We are agreed that the army is useless at this point. Another argument: The plan for the army was based on the idea that as long as they didn't go too deep in the Desolation, they wouldn't encounter reaver-lords. Arran has now been attacked by one within Imperium lands (i.e., not even in the Desolation), so that assumption has been proven false. If the Wolfsblood Army is attacked by a reaver-lord, Arran and Kaleesh might be able to escape if they abandon the army, but the army would all die along with whoever tries to protect them. View More

Red_beard: I think Arran left Kaleesh so far behind that he would barely be of any use, he just wiped a group of dozens of Blightspawn and two Reavers with ease and could definitely do it even without magic.
If the enemies right above Reavers in power are like this man, then encountering one is probably a death sentence to Kaleesh too unless they join a group with Knights in Sacrifice. Arran with a few Knights along with Kaleesh for army strategy is the only viable option I see going forward, and even then many will die.

Jack_Keener: Welcome back. Best of luck getting back into your groove. Ignore the trolls. If this was a print release, there would be years between releases. Some people are too entitled to be patient. Your story is good and worth the wait.

Exactly. Regular soldiers are zero help to Arran. Instead they are people to protect. So what is the point in bringing an army, or even the wolfsblood mercenaries into the desolation? Kaleesh is useful for everything political, and he can run from anything too strong for him. So it seems like it should be just Arran and Kaleesh as a team. View More

Red_beard: Welcome back!

We can finally say for certain(?) that Arran reached the level of a Knight! Super excited!
I'm guessing that the new kind of Blight is at the Archmage level or close to whatever it is that can threaten Lords, although I wonder how sheer power alone; be it physical or magical could threaten someone who is powerful at using insights at their level. Could the more powerful Blight troops retain enough of their minds to study insights?

Kaleesh: I've got an army now!
Arran: yeah... sorry bro but that won't cut it...

TomVanDyke: As you've undoubtedly noticed, I've been having some trouble getting back into the rhythm of writing again. I understand that this has been rather frustrating for you all, and the same holds true for me -- there are few things as unpleasant as staring at an empty document without words appearing.

To fix that, I've cleared my schedule for the next few weeks, so I can focus on doing nothing but writing. I can't promise that I'll be able to produce regular daily updates again immediately, but I can promise that I will try my hardest.

I agree. Ch 390 and/or 375 need to be tweaked so that they don't contradict.

Chapter 390 describes Arran's foundation in Darian techniques as "only barely at the level of a Ranger, if that." BUT, chapter 375 describes it as "mastery of the Darians' own foundation, and to a level far beyond that of a mere Ranger." View More

Red_beard: Arran being "barely at the level of a Ranger" without his strength makes no sense, he completely destroyed Rangers before by relying on his Insights alone - notably Lady Raina's son, and later he tied Arjun who is stated to be close to matching a Knight's knowledge but lacks the strength. He also played around with Negin while not using his strength to overpower her.

Arran supposedly solidified his foundation already, what else can he gain from the Darian children's movements? I get it if he managed to advance with the Forms but not the movements that he supposedly gained all he could from.

Thanks for clearing things up, Lost_One!
Re Q1: It is surprising to me that Jirni classifies herself as someone who doesn't care about the tragedy. I thought that her job is to stop such tragedies. What is Jirni's job really, and what motivates her to do it if she, like Lith, does not care about people outside of a very small circle? View More

Lost_0ne: 1) Jirni.
2) You're correct with the honey trap assumption.
3) She either comes clean to Lith with why she was sent or just shut up and do her job.
4) The fact that Kamila was sent there as a honey trap for Lith due to their relationship.

I'm confused about 4 things:
1) Who is the second 'feral monster' (besides Lith)?
2) What is the elephant in the room that only Jirni and Kamila know? Is it that Kamila is there only as a honey trap for Lith?
3) What is the career or self-respect decision that Kamila needs to make? Is it to refuse to go on missions when she is sent only as a honey trap for Lith?
4) What facts is Lith's paranoia piecing together? Is it that Kamilia is there only as a honey trap for him? View More

Welcome back!
I'm confused about what Arran plans to do. He concluded earlier that he had gotten everything possible from the kiddie exercises that Muna showed him, and that trying to extend them further risked going in wrong directions that would create problems later. View More
