If all Darians have some level of magic resistance, then it seems logical that the citizen-making-blood confers magic resistance. View More

Right! Is there anyone left (except Balkor) who Lith would like to kill? View More

TomVanDyke: A quick update on the lack of chapters these past few days:

I just found out this week that my grandfather has terminal cancer, so I've been preoccupied with things other than writing for the past few days.

I'll try to get back to posting daily chapters from today on, though.

I hope you all understand.

Agreed. There is no point in Arran telling Kaleesh that he is a mage. It would be a huge risk with no gain, since Arran would be a fool to use magic within the imperium. View More

slaev: Highly doubt that Arran will tell Kaleesh that he's a mage, but if he does, I hope Kaleesh will not instantly betray him and gain a true ally against the Imperium in the war to come

boov: Telling kalleesh that he is a mage it would only bring trouble...kalleesh has too much ambition...and people with ambition will do anything to achieve their goals

good point! But the priests could use shadow weapons to sense immigrants, so they must be using magic as Arran suspected. View More

YourJealousEx: I just realized.... Since none of the hunters can manipulate essence, there is no way to 'bond' with their living shadow weapons the way Arran did. They can't communicate with their living shadow weapons, they don't share their Sense, they can't even change their weapon's form. All those living, intelligent features of living shadow are basically wasted on the Hunters and they merely use them as a normal blade that is just sharper than other blades. What a waste!!! Better give those shards of living shadow to the mages! At least they can properly use them!

The same thing happened to me. I published a book that was proofread by multiple friends, 2 professors, 2 classes of grad students, and yet when it went to a professional proofreader he found dozens of errors. And then after it was published, readers still found more errors. In comparison, your writing is very clean! And the errors are so few that they don't break immersion, which is what counts for me. Great work! View More

TomVanDyke: Thanks, fixed it! It's odd, how I can check it half a dozen times, and still not notice that an entire word is missing.

Agreed! And from the faces of the Darians, it looks like Kaleesh and Arran will learn from watching it, much like how Arran learned from watching the creation of the wards around Brightblade's dueling grounds. View More

Omega0907: As always thanks for the chapter, and I can't wait for the battle to commence.

So Rannoc succeeded in enraging Kadun; presumably to impede Kadun's ability to fight carefully. View More

Rannoc seems surprisingly good to Kaleesh and Arran: (1) He has them stop kneeling, (2) He verbally praises their plan and its execution, (3) He guarantees them citizenship immediately, (4) He offers for them to watch his battle and learn from it, and (5) He cautions them so that they can make an informed decision. I would be very surprised if Arran uses magic; if Rannoc or anyone noticed it, it would be an instant death sentence. If Rannoc is going to lose the fight, Arran would have nothing to lose by hiding it. But Arran has already witnessed turnarounds when a fight seemed lost (e.g., Brightblade's duel), so he should be wary of using magic pre-emptively to try to tip the scales of a battle (e.g., by tripping Kadun). View More

GoldenOne1: I feel like Arran will do some magic trick to help him win and no one will notice (Maybe the lord will and then decides to say thanks with some gifts)

OK. So now Arran knows to seek speed from the captain, and speed, swordplay, and insights from the Darians. And that until he improves those things, no amount of strength will enable him to match knights of the level of the one he faced. View More

I would like that too, but the author has a full-time job, which makes it hard to increase the writing rate without sacrificing quality. View More

Plot twists that would be too unlikely: The incoming knight being the one who gave him the ring, and one of the incoming soldiers being the girl he saved by giving her his draconic blood ruin. View More

Since the captain plans so well, he made sure to destroy the gate mechanism and jam the gate so that it will be difficult and time consuming to close the gate and so that it will not close securely any more. View More

True. But the author is working a full-time job and still getting out daily updates. The action is stretched out, but it is still progressing because the author hasn't switched to a holding-pattern of using tropes (queue the next arrogant rich young master to claim the women who are friends with the MC). =) View More

Kasztelan: True, lately the pace of story slow down, or more precisely more words is spent on describing surrounding than progressing story.
