I know some things about patients, I have seen people go both ways. The ones who choose to live, enjoying the rest of their time and the ones who decide to give up on the time they have left. I'm assuming you've mostly seen the latter, but that doesn't mean the former doesn't exist because they do and they're trying their best. Right now since people are dwelling on the negatives is the exact reason on why we shouldn't forget, that just like how you cannot feel clean if you've never been dirty, the same goes for joy and hope.

You must have hope and you must believe that things will get better otherwise you're just going to make a life out of your misery, and that's not a happy life my friend. You control your actions, you can be happy if you will yourself to be, it's not easy but it can be done if you actually want it. This quote only refers to those who want to get out of their suffering, not drown in it.
