Inside the baby, or more appropriately, its soul, something weird occurred. The baby's soul that looked like a tiny transparent wisp, barely detectable was approached by a humongous soul. Unlike it, the invader soul had a faint trace of blue in it, its body hundreds of times bigger than the wisp. A tendril emerged out of the blue soul, slithering through space and attaching itself on the transparent wisp.

Given that their goal is space magic, the results won't be so bad considering space and earth elements don't counteract each other. It might still be slower than other materials but it wasn't something they could afford to worry about, they hadn't even started working on the array after all.

Changing the status quo could be beneficial with the threat of the adventurers looming closer. The dungeon might want to stop what Ed presumed to be a body farm and instead try to make them stay strong to form a resistance. Whether they would actually succeed probably didn't matter to it. The dungeon would simply send Ed away again in the worst-case scenario.
