The ice was melting rapidly and turned to steam upon contact with the lava, but it seemed like the magic of whoever was using the ice was outpacing that of the beast. When his claws hit, it had scratched some of the rock on the beast, but this was just artificial damage and soon the molten lava that was running through the beast's skin started to light up and glow with extreme heat. Lava started to spew out from the rocks and some of it landed upon Jack's skin.
