It's not the pay that's terrible tbh. The pay is certainly below the norm for this line of work, but it's bearable for what WN provides. The thing that makes WN terrible is them owning the book for 50 years. I never expected my book to become popular or to become a full time author. If I knew that would happen back then, I wouldn't have signed the contract. It's decent, but it leaves your book stuck with them. So, if you aren't quite making enough to live, there isn't an option at this point with this book for me to remove it and post it elsewhere. Is what it is, and I hate that I couldn't finish it for you guys, but it doesn't make fiscal sense for me to continue. For mine and my kids' sake, I have to put my all into my new book and leave this one be. If you want to read it, it's updating daily on RoyalRoad or on P*treon.
