For the majority of cultivators they can easily sense the cultivation base of others with the same or lower level of cultivation while some with sharper senses could sense more for example let's say your cultivation is True spirit realm early stage then if you have sharper senses you could sense someones cultivation up to at best high stage True spirit realm if your senses are sharp enough or you have a physique that enhances you senses but it would be nearly impossible to see through the cultivation of someone at the Earth spirit realm while being at the True spirit realm early stage without having experienced being a cultivator at the Earth spirit realm which is possible only for those whose cultivaton regressed for example because of injury, poison or a mistake made during cultivation another would be that you reincarnated and had already been a cultivator in the Earth spirit realm or higher, even then those are the ones without treasures, secret/special methods and special physiques as there are many which can help you see through many things not just cultivation bases but in Su Yang's case it's usually because of experince that he can see throught their cultivation even though they have higher cultivation and if they are hiding it he might use the All-seeing celestial eyes

i agree my grandmother has also continued to live alone after my grandfather who i never met died 20 some years ago and even tho she rarely talks about him there are times when she does and i can always feel her longing and love for him as clear as day since she's usually very stern and composed it's easy to tell the difference🤭
