Nodding my head, I couldn't agree more with his words. "That does seem to have been the case throughout the history of man. Truths are a matter for the majority to decide, with the minority being forced to bring absolute, indisputable proof in order to change it. It was not for naught that the planet has been flat for thousands of years, after all."

I doubt happiness is the sole reason why people want to live. It can be much more instinctual in my opinion. It's most likely we want to live due to the fear of dying. Even suicidal people who can't find any joy in life often hesitate to take their own lives or straight up don't do so because they fear dying. I guess what I'm trying to say is most people want to live because they fear dying.

Then, if happiness was the reason why humans want to live, what was happiness?

A thousand corps! Each corps consisted of around fifty thousand men. That meant Hax wanted to add fifty million men into this organization alone. Everyone who heard his statement was shocked. Fifty million soldiers! Did he want to conquer the world?
