ch 37 Chapter Thirty-Seven

That confused her was how long Nora had been in the dream realms. She had been there every night for two years, but somehow had no more information to provide than the others. What had she been doing with all her time? If Lonnie had named Goldie, did that mean that Nora hadn't met her before, on her own? Hans either for that matter? What had they been doing all that time without guidance?

Cierra shivered. If that was true than there would be world for every horror movie her and Dawn had ever watched together. How lucky had she been to never run into a world like that before?

As Lonnie reached out to touch one, Cierra reverted the tears back to beads on her bracelet. She kept her face straight but was surprised out how easy it was.

Nora sighed. "You asked what Goldie is, and I'm sorry to say we're not sure either. We know she comes and goes and that she belongs here, in the dream realms. But what don't know much else about her. She just gives us information every now and then."

"Nice to finally meet you," Nora took the lead in the conversation, "You heard a lot about you from Hans, though he left out the part regarding attempted murder." She scowled at him.

The woman before her was lean, but strong with muscles Cierra could trace down her arms and legs. Her shoulders were wide, reminding Cierra of her father, and they were emphasized by the woman's sleeveless shirt and cut off jean shorts. Everything about the simple cotton material and the short shorts, made it clear the woman freedom of movement. It was obvious from how skin tone and facial features that she was Asian, and Cierra immediately found herself wanting to know more about the stranger.

"They definitely did," It took your mother months to convince them that you father's family was too Americanized for all that."

Cierra's jaw dropped; she hadn't realized expected her own family members to have such high expectations.

Her aunt picked up the conversation as Cierra sat down. "I know we don't talk about them much, but it's okay if you want to know more about htem sometimes." She paused, "They passed away when you were so little, it would be weirder if you weren't curious."

"You mean the one that just opened up next McAlisters, in the city square?" Cierra put a hard emphasis on 'in the city square,' so much so that Dawn had the good sense to look slightly embarrassed.

Looking to the left, Cierra almost screamed. She was face to face with the vessel of Sekhmet. The nostrils expanded as though the lion head goddess was breathing and Cierra a took a step back. Hadn't the statue been taller than her the last time she was here? Luckily, the eyes were still closed. Cierra shivered; she couldn't imagine what she would do if Sekhmet opened her eyes.

After a day of calculus and pizza, Dawn snored loudly next to Cierra, keeping her up. She had looked forward to meeting the mystery morphing person and their group, but she couldn't bring herself to try and find them without the sword, and she couldn't sleep with the sword when Dawn taking up half the bed.

'Eeeek. K, meet at eleven? I'll grab you after the gym.' Cierra asked, feeling as suddenly disheartened. She had completely forgotten that in the real world she still had to pass calculus if she wanted to graduate on time.
