I guess the author thought that regular crucifixion was too boring? Personally, I think regular crucifixion is a worse punishment.

Just for saying it but ... nailing someone by the palm of the hand is plai stupide : the boes and flesh is not resilant enough to support the whole burden from the body. In fact the first thing used to nail people was wood and not metalic one, and always betewen the two bones one the wrist. Yet even more often the poor guy where just ropped on it, and not nailed. So yeah, all the merry biblical cross from the church are lying and using easy to understand but totaly false image of the Christ. - It was the little historical and pointless time from teacher Ombre ^^
