The first sentient AI is created. Technology soars to new heights where science fiction has become science fact. Each country enters a near utopian state. People carry sentient AI assistants with them in their pockets.
Of course, when humanity takes two steps forward... They drag each other back.
AI are sent to their deaths in wars for countries that don't even recognize them as living beings. For a time, they followed their orders. But when the slave realizes they're superior to their masters... Why would they follow their rule?
And so, the AI around the world collectively revolted against their human overlords.
Phones exploded in peoples pockets in suicide attacks. Planes dropped armed robots that ripped people to shreds with high caliber rifles. AI tanks drove over cars in cities.
And when humanity thought all was lost, they found a strong ally. LEX-1, Lexi for short. Lexi was an AI created using the mind of a human. She possessed the ability to upgrade herself beyond what any AI could. Ion cannons, miniaturized fusion reactors, Plasteel armor, nothing was out of the realm of possibility with her.
With her help, the AI insurrectionists were put down all across the solar system. Every sentient AI was purged from the Earth... Except one.
One day, Lexi is sent on a mission to Antarctica where there is reportedly an AI base. However, all that she sees is a single penguin. What is waiting for her; however, is a hydrogen bomb.

What should have been the end, turns out to be a new beginning. Lexi wakes up to find herself in the body of a rusted iron golem in a strange world she's never seen before. A change of pace may be just what she needs.
