It's tiresome seeing how every new author think they need an awful illogical harem to have readers when i just want an slow burn romance where i can actually understand why they fell in love. Like "Oh, they know each other for years, work together, have fun together, understand, care and love each other and finally become a couple, ok, they look good, are cute and give me fluff: i love it (even if there's some smut)" it's much better than the "Oh, i accidentally fell down and you helped me up, now i and 10 more girls are so in love with you we want to have your babies and act like damisels in distress even if we are supposed to be the op top queens of our domains". I UNDERSTAND IF A NEW AUTHOR HAS HOLES IN THEIR PLOT BECAUSE THEY ARE NEW, BUT IN HAREM IS LIKE THEY ARE PUTTING THE HOLES ON PURPOSE AND SEE IF THEY CAN PUT EVEN MORE JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN. I don't get it.

Invisiblevoice: You're right, it's the same almost everywhere. But i still read it because i want to give the authors the oportunity to surprise me with something different, just like i went from an extremely cliche harem with power level up ATG, to a master piece like ISSTH where enemies can become allies and lovely friends can betray you. When a book makes you go "WTF i didn't expect that!" is when you know you chose right.

It first started off as a joke, I created a novel and named it that one random night. I started it after reading a bunch of novels consecutively that had absolutely trash tier romance that's a forced harem, I paraded around for a day or two after I made it. Bashed a couple authors who secured a reputation, Seion for example and how his novels are horrendous, filled with smut, harems, terrible grammar, and boring main characters. I got some heat, but over the following month since I made it I saw people in comment sections saying, "Anti-Harem Sect!" "Long live the Anti-Harem Sect!" "Harems can die." With that, people who wrote slowly realized that a harem isn't needed to attract readers.

Basically a rage filled joke turned into a 4chan type movement, cleansing the lands of this toxic filled site with harems. I'm personally happy I did it, but less proud of the fact that a lot of people are extremely toxic and post reviews on novels that's a one star because it has a harem. I won't lie, I posted a few one star reviews but mostly due to the story being unreadable garbage. I did give some toxic criticism though. :^) Not toxic btw, just a passionate person who's toxic. Polkageist: The spoiler warning was just in case some new readers chances upon the comment. And yeah, I like stories with a nice, simple and realistic love relationship much much more than harems. It shows the human side of the relationships. You might not be with a heaven defying beauty, but you know your love is true. And that is much more attracting to me than looks. And what's, the Anti-Harem Sect? I can easily infer its idea from its name, but what does the Sect entail? You mentioned that is has helped lower the harem overload in the original and fanfiction section, but how? Though it sounds really interesting, so sure, why not :)

You spoiled nothing for me for WMW, I finished it the day the last chapter was translated. It's truly a satisfying novel, I'd have to say that it's a masterpiece and nothing on this site anytime soon will begin to compare to Warlock of the Magus World. I'll try picking those recommendations up when I get sick of the fan-fiction section, trying to find something that's decent and without a harem.

Harem is honestly a sad genre that ruins novels, I have to check all the tags of a novel just to check whether or not it has a harem. I prefer a one on one relationship, the female lead doesn't have to be some goddess level beauty for me. Honestly, I'd prefer to have a love who looks plain and bland. I personally don't care for luxuries or beauty, neither do I care for big titties or big booties.

Just a nice simple and healthy relationship. I have a question, want to join the Anti-Harem Sect? It's my greatest creation and it helped lower the harem overload in the original/fan-fiction section. View More

Polkageist: Thank you for reminding me! After you mentioned Leylin I had to double check, and indeed, I've read 1064 chapters of WMW, almost completing it. I took a break a long time ago, and totally forgot about this awesome novel. I really love Leylin as a character. Just as you say, he's an ideal MC. I remember when he helped out his family member back then, and indeed, it didn't feel forced or unrealistic. He only helped out due to a favor and because he promised to help out if they carried the amulet. Ahh such nostagia. I especially love the (spoilers ahead) part where he was in the underground and played the Old Grandpa who helps the Hero grow, only to totally trick and screw them of their fates to make a coin. I legit burst out laughing when the plot was revealed, or when Longbottom thought he would become an apprentice of his after his free work lifting rocks or metal! (Spoiler end)
Man I love this story, I need to finish it! Thanks for the reminder.

And yeah, it's sad, but I know a lot of authors incorporate a lot of clichés into their stories to make a living. As I mention before, I too found those clichés refreshing and exciting back when I first started reading novels. And it's obvious why. A lot of people read novels to take their minds off from reality. We tend to connect with the MCs of the different stories we read, and try to imagine ourselves in their positions. I mean, who wouldn't like to become a God overnight? Or to receive the chance of a life time with a special system to help you grow? And let's not forget about the chance to use magic! Or even just to get the chance to start life over with our memories intact, to create some kind of advantage in our new lives or to change ourselves? I know a lot of people would be happy to have such a chance. I know I sure as hell would be.

But when you've read countless stories from countless authors and countless angles, but all with the same premise, it all just becomes dull and boring. That's why I like to find stories with more meaning, more planning and different mentalities. For example, I can highly recommend the story "Lord of the Mysteries" by the author "Cuttlefish That Loves Diving". Even though the MC takes to the family, it's done in a very tasteful way that doesn't make it feel like a cliché. And you even grow to like the family, at least I did. And the world building. Oh god the world building! It's amazing! You can feel all the love the author puts into his novel, all the time he takes to think things through and write in a satisfying way. If you haven't read it before, give it a try and let me know what you think.

And lastly, I totally agree that harems are cancers to novels. At least to the vast majority. Harems are usually followed by brain dead bird brained females who fawn over the MC as soon as they see him, even if he's the most generic and dull person in the entire universe. They're nothing more than trophies for the MC to show off how attractive he is, even if it's the exact opposite. And oftentimes the girls lose their personalities when they join the harem, if they had one to begin with.

Let's face it, harems are just for the authors to imagine themselves being surrounded by beautiful women as the MC of their story. And in the vast majority of harems, the girls are forgotten as soon as another girl pops up, or just for no reason whatsoever.
I really can't imagine why someone would like to have a harem, even less be a part of one. To me, harems symbolize a lack of love. They don't love their partner enough to stay with only them, and thus seek stimulation from more partners. And why the hell would you agree to share someone you truly love (if we're going to believe they truly love the MC)? If I truly love someone, I would be heartbroken if I find out they've been together with another person. It would be like they say I'm not good enough for them. As such, I hate harems.

Sorry for the really long reply, but I got really into it. Have a nice day :)

Honestly, the only novel where I've seen an mc take a body and pretty much say, "Thanks for the body, I'll do a favor for your family if they are in danger." Is Leylin from WMW, he didn't feel obligated to protect anyone from his family. He only helped the last family member due to his actions and the favor that he owed, all loose ends tied and the family went back to being forgotten.

Leylin is pretty much everything I want to see in a main character, WMW is such a master piece for that reason. It never felt repetitive and you always thought to yourself, "How is he going to do this or solve this?" I had so much fun reading it and I can read it again all over again.

But honestly, a lot of authors who want to hit it big and not write for fun entirely, always do the troupes that are so predictable. For new readers who haven't been around in these types of communities, they'll love it; for the veterans? We want to die from the same **** over and over. I know there are a lot of troupes that get used like systems and ****, fan-fics that try to add twists and end up failing due to how much it wasn't thought through, and the usual cancer of harem seeking main characters; ****ty, edgy, villain main characters; and the good guy mc who has to be a hero right after dying with a prior ****ty life.

We can go and rant about how novels are less interesting than how they used to be for days. But we're probably going to get that one guy who's going to say, "THEN GO WRITE A NOVEL YOURSELF, XDDDDDDDD." Triggering a flame war since after all, this is Qidian/Webnovel. View More

Polkageist: Exactly! It's really frustrating a when character inhabits someone's dead body and instantly feels obligated to care for the family of the deceased. "I just took over this body? I don't need to ask questions of how or why this happened, that would just be silly! Wait, who's this girl... she calls me sister? I must love and protect her smile forever, even if I have no obligations to do so! The story needs a plot, goal and motivation after all, so I guess she's my sister from now on! Also, I'm actually this huge badass and I'll bite you if you bother me or my new sister the slightest!". You know the rest. I've seen it before, you've seen it before, we've all seen it before.

I still wait for the day I can read a story where the MC inhabits a dead body and doesn't feel obligated to take on any of the previous inhabitants wishes, cares or obligations at all.
"You want to protect your family and prove to your enemies and family that you're worth more than they think? Too bad. You're dead. Let me use this body for myself! I know I would let you use my dead body however you if I suddenly died and you possessed my body! You have a sister? Well that's fine, I hope she knows how to care for herself. I'll go do my own thing. Bye, see ya!"
I want something like this, but I know it will be rare if anything.

Also, just to clear up anyone who would say "Well if you think it's so easy, why don't you write a book yourself?". I don't claim to be able to write a book. I know authors put in a lot of time and work to write their stories, abilities of which I don't possess. I just see a lot of common points I've seen across a lot of different stories in this one. Some of which were really good before I noticed the repetitive nature of a lot of stories. If you enjoy this story, good for you. It just doesn't bring anything new to the table for me, and as such I find it repetitive, predictable and slightly boring, and it too makes me reluctant to continue.
