What I think the author is trying to do here is refer to how the MCs mother Was killed and he could do nothing about it, as he doesn’t want to take the mother beast from her childeren. As he most definitely has trama from his mother dieing, which is shown when he crys in front of his ‘friends’ mother. he has experienced this pain of loseing someone so cloes and he doesn’t want others to got through the same thing not even beasts. This is most likely why he is acting this way
