He had no arms or legs, and everything was shadowy and shifting like a slow-moving current.

From the depths of the ocean, where creatures battle for survival, where evolution has taken hideous effect, where man’s intervention has transfigured and deformed nature, the tank puts these atrocities on display like a deadly aquarium. I grew up in the Bay Area. My family took trips to the aquarium in Monterey where I was mesmerized by the sea animals. I realized that these large beasts would be the dominant species if we were aquatic creatures. When I was surfing at pleasure point in Santa Cruz, my leg got entangled in sea weed. It felt like the something had gripped me, so my mind rushed through all the dark things lurking beneath the water. This series was inspired by that event.
