The heart of memory
Wolfgang is a former Viennese art critic and expert who has lived for some years on the Giglio Island in Tuscany where he moved to get away from the stress of the city in an attempt to keep a rare genetic disease that has affected him for some time under control. The events take place between Giglio Island, Vienna, Florence, Venice and Rome, cities with a strong artistic and spiritual significance. In “The heart of memory” the last days of the couple's life are narrated during which Wolfgang abandons himself to memories and retraces the main stages of his life until he reaches his death. The couple decides to commit suicide on the island's beach, hugging each other as the sun rises after Sofia reveals to Wolfgang that she too is terminally ill.
