Chapter 40: Eden

Roselind didn't have time to waste on the sentimental thoughts. It wasn't like they could bring back Raymond Pearce. He was supposed to be the heir of Pearce Enterprise, but perhaps all of that didn't matter anymore.

Without a word, she turned on her feet and began heading towards the guest bathroom on the first floor of the enormous house. She had grown up in this place, but still gets lost sometimes. There were simply too many rooms.

Roselind knocked upon the guest bedroom door.

"Are you done?" she called out.

When there was no response, she let out a sigh of relief. It meant he was still in the shower. She slipped the door open by a crack peeked inside. She was surprised to see it was unlocked.

Roselind thought he would be more aware of his security. Or maybe he was well-trained to fight anyone. She thought of the chords of veins on his muscular forearm. And the tattoo that seeped from his sleeves.

He definitely could take on any attacker.

"It shouldn't be my concern," Roselind stated. She opened the door and headed towards the bed where she placed the items down. Adam had also given her pants and new briefs.

"My mission here is done. Time to get the hell out," Roselind muttered under her breath. But just like a cheesy Korean Drama, the bathroom door clicked open.

Roselind froze.

Cadden stepped out with a towel hanging dangerously low on his hips. One hand loosely rested against his waist, the other dried his wet hair.

Roselind didn't mean to stare, but she did. His muscles flexed with each action. Droplets of water trickled from his hair down his well-toned body. She followed its path.

From the hard eight lines on his stomach to the prominent v-line of his hip, everything about him was flawless. Not even the Greek statues in Museums could match his figure.

"Looked long enough?" he demanded.

"No, not yet," Roselind responded with a cross of her arms. But it was a lie and she turned her attention to his face.

"And before you ask," she added on. "I've seen better."

"Sure you did," Cadden retorted. He closed the distance between them. And for once, she had the decency to take a small step backwards.

Roselind wryly smiled and glanced towards the ground.

"Would you like a show?" he teased when she didn't budge from the spot.

"Can you stop asking shameless questions?" Roselind stated while inching away from the bed. She couldn't find it in herself to look at him. She needed to get out of here as soon as possible, but found herself rooted to the ground.

"Only when you stop giving brazzen responses."

Roselind's head snapped to him. "I do not--" She gasped. Her eyes widened at their proximity. He had approached her. He was so close that she felt the heat oozing off of his body. He hadn't touched her, but she felt her skin warm from his tense stare.

Roselind was forced to create distance between them. With her one step back, he took two forward. Until she was eventually cornered against a piece of furniture.

"What are you doing?" Roselind asked. His bare arms came on either side of her.

"Exactly what your words love to imply," Cadden murmured.

Roselind noticed the chords on his arm had bulged. He tightly clenched the furniture behind her. She wondered what else those hands could grip. At the dirty thought, her mind flushed and she was forced to look away.

"I don't have the slightest suspicion about what you're talking about," Roselind stated. She tried her best to not cower back when he leaned forward. He smelled delectable. Despite using the guest showering supplies, his prominent scent couldn't be wiped. Spices and tangerines.

Roselind gulped. She could feel his cool minty breath on top of her head. He lowered himself until they were eye-to-eye.

"Heed my warnings carefully, Troublemaker," Cadden warned.

Roselind's senses were overwhelmed by him. His voice was low and husky. Smooth like velvet, but threatening like silver. He sounded like a sword wrapped in silk.

"Stay. Far. Away. From. Me."

Roselind was startled by his words. Her gaze snapped to him and she instantly regretted it. A storm brewed in his dark eyes. Hungry. Passionate. As if he could tear her apart. He was already doing it to her insides that churned at his gaze.

"Or else what?" she fired back.

His lips twisted into a sinister smile. His eyes flashed with warning. "Don't test me, Sunflower."

"You're the one who wanted the meeting with my father, you're the one who came here tonight," Roselind pointed out. "Mr. Kinky Captor, I think I should be the one telling you that warning."

Cadden scowled at her horrid nickname. "Stop calling me that."

"Well, when are you going to call me by my actual name?" Roselind asked.

"What was your name again?" Cadden mused.

Roselind glared at him. Damn prick. "Are you having early signs of dementia? Roselind is not that hard to remember."

"Right, Poppy," Cadden deadpanned.

"Alright, Eden."

Roselind smirked when his eyes narrowed. His name sounded exactly like Garden of Eden [1]. How did he not predict she'd call him something like this?

"Cadden," he growled out.

"Eden," she corrected.

She gasped when he swooped in and their chest touched. Granted, she was clothed, but he certainly wasn't.

"C. A. D. D. E. N."

"E. D. E. N." Roselind spelled out after him, much to his irritation. Seeing him so irked like this only amused her further. He certainly knew what she was referring to.

Cadden abruptly grabbed her waist, catching her by surprise. She glanced down, noticing he was careful to not graze her bare skin. He didn't want to find out whether or not they were soulmates. Yet he showed no hesitation of touching her. What was he doing?

"You'll get burned if you play with fire," he warned.

Roselind cocked her head to the side. "Then it's a shame, your flames don't hurt me."

And before he could react, she placed her hands on his chest and shoved him off. Their skin made contact. The soulmate phenomenon was triggered. The only problem? Only one of them saw the past.

Xincerely Xincerely
